Red Ants Pants Foundation

Red Ants Pants Foundation Fostering strength and self-reliance in women and rural, agricultural communities. Founded in 2011

Founded by Sarah Calhoun, Red Ants Pants is a company dedicated to making workwear for women. Having grown up on a farm and completed years of work leading trail crews and instructing for Outward Bound, she became fed up with the lack of workwear for women. So she moved to Montana and started a business making work pants for women in 2006. Red Ants Pants is headquartered in White Sulphur Springs,

Montana, and all products are Made in the USA. To show support for the hard-working side of Montana and beyond, the Red Ants Pants Foundation was born in 2011. The Foundation supports women’s leadership, working family farms and ranches, and rural communities, the three things most important to Calhoun, the company, and the Red Ants Pants Community.

“They really are the heart of the community,” said Shannon Stober, the festival’s volunteer coordinator.

Many of those volunteers return year after year. Some travel from across Montana, while others come from different states or make the festival part of an annual family trip."

Festival season may be behind us, but our work is just getting started.

As we shift into our fall programming, we’re excited to welcome women from across Montana to learn new skills, build confidence, and strengthen rural communities.

Here’s to another season of growing a stronger colony.

A huge congratulations to our Martin guitar winner from Festival weekend, Susan, who says this is more than a guitar:

“I came to my first Red Ants Pants Music Festival because I love music.

Music has always been one of the quickest ways I know to bring people together. It softens hearts, opens conversations, and reminds us that the world is bigger than the headlines. There is something magical about people gathered around a campfire, sharing songs, stories, and a little bit of themselves.

So when I wandered over to the raffle and saw the chance to win a Martin Guitar—the Molly Tuttle edition—I knew exactly which ticket I wanted.

When I got the call I won the raffle, I was completely blown away.

Now, I should confess...I’m not a great guitar player. I’m what I call a proud campfire chord player. But winning this beautiful guitar felt less like a prize and more like an invitation.

An invitation to keep learning.
An invitation to keep singing.
And most of all, an invitation to bring even more people together.

My work is centered around creating communities where people reconnect—with themselves and with one another. Music has always been part of that.

This guitar will travel with me to workshops, retreats, campfires, and gatherings where strangers become friends and voices become one.

My first stop? Back to the Whitefish Music School for a few more lessons. Then hopefully back to White Sulphur Springs next year with a couple of Molly Tuttle songs under my fingers and a circle of people ready to sing along.

Thank you, Red Ants Pants, for such an incredible gift.
I promise this guitar won’t spend its life hanging on a wall.

It’ll be out in the world doing what music does best—bringing people together.”
