Back in 2018, the LPA celebrated a milestone of 100 years of supporting science!

The story starts in 1918, when we were founded as the Association of Scientific Apparatus Makers of the United States — born right alongside the American laboratory products industry during World War I. A small group of manufacturers saw that science needed a community behind it, so they built one.

A century later, that community looks different but the spirit hasn't changed. Our members — manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of everything from glass and plasticware to chemicals and equipment — are still the backbone of scientific progress. And alongside our affiliate OPIA, focused on microscopy, we keep showing up for the labs doing the work.

From that first meeting to our Centennial celebration to right now, here's to the people who've been equipping science for 100 years and counting.

At this year’s LPA Spring Meeting, we were fortunate to learn from voices who not only understand where the industry is today—but where it’s going next.

Rich Brooks delivered an energizing and practical look at AI, cutting through the noise and focusing on what really matters for our members: how to apply these tools strategically, responsibly, and in ways that actually move organizations forward. His perspective challenged us to think bigger, act smarter, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving landscape.

To close the meeting, Chris Champlain delivered a keynote that landed with real impact—reminding us that professional growth and personal connection are not separate tracks within LPA, but deeply intertwined. The strength of this association has always come from the relationships built here, and Chris brought that truth into sharp focus.
