For both Kazem Abdullah and Anthony McGill this program represents return engagements with the Westchester Philharmonic, but the first time together since their boyhood days at Interlochen Band Camp, where both were clarinet students. Indiana-born Abdullah migrated to the conductor’s podium, where he eventually took the reins as Music Director of the City of Aachen, Germany, and has since won wide acclaim in the U.S. for leading the revival of Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcom X with the Detroit Opera, which will move to the Metropolitan Opera later in 2023. McGill has gone on to worldwide fame with the clarinet, first gaining wide attention when he performed with Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman on the Capitol steps for the first inauguration of Barack Obama. He has since been named Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic.

Finally! After having their concert with us cancelled in April 2020 due to the pandemic, the long-awaited pairing of Jayce Ogren and Ran Dank can be consummated, and we proudly add the rising star composer Jessie Montgomery to the mix for a grand 40th celebration. Tickets are now available!

The Phil, conductor Jayce Ogren, and pianist Ran Dank unite for a celebration of the Westchester Philharmonic 40th Anniversary Season.

MAGIC IN A CHILD’S SMILE: Westchester Philharmonic teaching artists Matt Ward and Matt Gold visited the Greyston pre-school, October 2013. The Phil has been bringing the magic of music to classrooms for 38 years, touching the hearts of tens of thousands of children…and touching our own hearts, too.

DON’T RAIN ON OUR PARADE! Conductor Alondra de la Parra leads the Phil at its then-annual Independence Day concert at Kensico Dam, July 3, 2008. Midway through the concert, the rains came, sending 5,000 listeners (and 50 musicians) scurrying for cover.

THE SHY OBOIST: Conductor Jorge Mester guides the Phil in Bizet’s Symphony in C and its famed, extended oboe solo. Rather than the standard practice of pointing at the oboist to bow in place, Mester implores Principal oboist Melanie Feld to accept extended gratitude from the audience. 9/22/13.
