This weekend, our Chapter Regent attended the District IX Workshop, where members gathered to hear updates from the New York State Board and inspiring presentations from fellow District Regents. Each shared highlights of their chapters’ activities, projects, and members’ outstanding contributions.

Workshops like these are a wonderful opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate the meaningful work being done across our DAR communities!

🇺🇲 This evening our White Plains Chapter DAR was honored to be present at the Annual Greenburgh Veterans Recognition Barbeque, held at AF Veteran Park, Gerard Byrne Center. From 4:30–7:30 PM, hundreds of veterans gathered to enjoy delicious food, fellowship, and—most importantly—the gratitude of the community for their service.

We are proud to stand alongside our veterans, to thank them for their sacrifices, and to support events that allow our town to express heartfelt appreciation for those who served our country.

We were honored to be joined by residents and families of Parkway Gardens and Parkway Homes for Riley Wentzler's incredible presentation on the history of this remarkable community.

Riley Wentzler, Assistant Town Historian for the Town of Greenburgh, shared fascinating insights about Parkway Gardens, one of the largest middle-class African-American communities in the United States.

The stories and memories shared by those in attendance added a deeply personal and heartfelt connection to Riley’s wonderfully researched presentation, bringing the history of this neighborhood to life.

❤️💙 A Society Founded on Service ❤️💙

In commemoration of the 134th anniversary of the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution, members of the White Plains Chapter joined Daughters from around the world to engage in a service project in our community on October 11.

This year, we partnered with Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon, NY to prepare, package, and distribute a home cooked meal for 84 people in need. Not only was it rewarding, but it was fun!

We are proud to be living our founders’ vision of a “society founded on service.”

We are thrilled to share highlights from the recent Veterans BBQ, hosted by the Town of Greenburgh at AF Veteran Town Park. As a proud supporter of this event, we are delighted to see hundreds of Veterans come together for a day filled with camaraderie, laughter, and delicious food. This event is a testament to our community's commitment to honoring and supporting those who have served.

The DAR was a sponsor at the 44th annual International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) Conference.

International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) is a conglomeration of organizations formed in 1988. Its goals are to provide a common voice for issues of significance to its members, to advance genealogical avocation, and to coordinate events like the annual genealogy conference. There are upwards of 80 Jewish Genealogy Societies around the world with objectives including collecting, preserving, and disseminating knowledge and information with reference to Jewish genealogy.

One of the largest Jewish genealogy resources for researchers is the website JewishGen. It houses millions of records from around the world and is the genealogy division of the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

Ellen Kowitt helped establish the American Research Division of JewishGen just before the pandemic. The JewishGen USA Research Division (USA-RD) is a group of volunteer genealogists exploring the lives of Jews in America from 1654 to the present with goals to educate, and identify, index, and share Jewish historical records that have genealogical value.

DAR created our Specialty Research Jewish platform four years ago with Ellen’s assistance. The platform’s main goal is to educate our members and the public on the significant contribution of the Jewish Patriots who supported the war against the British and our country’s founding. The Town Of Greenburgh Veterans Advisory Committee hosted a Veterans Recognition Breakfast on May 9 and White Plains Daughters were invited to help serve the Veterans and Caregivers in attendance ~ it was our opportunity to dish out thankfulness and admiration for those who served our country.

You are cordially invited to the White Plains Chapter's upcoming fundraiser -- with an emphasis on the FUN -- which will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 3 pm - 6 pm at Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford, NY.

Our event on April 6 promises to be an afternoon full of history, community, and fun. Feel free to kick back and enjoy some delicious pub fare, craft brews and/or local wine - all for a good cause. There will be pub games like corn hole and giant Jenga, time to socialize and network, and opportunities to test your knowledge and win prizes. There might even be a visit from the Captain himself! 🙂

We are thrilled to host this exciting experience while also raising funds to enable our chapter to contribute towards historic preservation, education, patriotism and service to our community -- including our Excellence in American History and Civic Involvement award and scholarship presented each year to a deserving White Plains High School senior.

Always an honor to participate in Wreaths Across America at St. Paul's Church National Historic Site, NPS in Mount Vernon. Our chapter sponsored several wreaths and laid one under a plaque honoring all of the deceased soldiers who perished at the church, which was used as a field hospital during the Revolutionary War.
