๐Ÿงญ NY Connects: One Call Can Open the Door to Real Solutions

Sometimes a problem starts with something simpleโ€”a broken furnace, difficulty keeping up with household tasks, a housing crisis, a job search, or trouble getting to medical appointments.

That's where NY Connects comes in. ๐Ÿ’™

NY Connects is a free information, referral, and assistance resource that helps New Yorkers navigate the complicated network of aging, disability, health, housing, transportation, employment, and supportive services.

Here are just a few ways NY Connects can help:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Home Heating & Energy Assistance โ€” reviewing HEAP, Weatherization, and NYSERDA options
๐Ÿ  Housing & Rental Assistance โ€” identifying DSS rental assistance and housing programs
๐Ÿ’ผ Employment Support โ€” connecting consumers with career centers for job placement, resume assistance, and workforce training
๐Ÿš— Medicaid Transportation โ€” explaining how to establish non-emergency medical transportation
๐Ÿก Help at Home โ€” connecting consumers with Medicaid Personal Care Services, EISEP, and other in-home support
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Advocacy & Care Planning โ€” helping families understand their options and next steps

๐Ÿ’™ NY Connects doesn't just give you a phone number. We help people understand their options, identify appropriate programs, make referrals, and figure out the next steps.

Whether you are an older adult, a person with a disability, a caregiver, or a family member trying to help someone you love, you don't have to navigate the system alone.

๐Ÿ“š Back to school means back to advocacy, for parents and students alike.

For parents, that means understanding your child's rights and working confidently with schools to make sure the right supports are in place. For students, it means knowing your strengths, your needs, and how to speak up, whether that's with a teacher, a counselor, or a classmate.

๐Ÿ™‹ Self-advocacy is a skill you build together, and it can make all the difference in how a school year goes.

WILC's Educational Advocacy team is here to support families navigating special education services all year long.

Live now on Augustโ€™s blog: โ€œMore Than a Game: Why Adaptive Sports Matterโ€ ๐Ÿ€

Sports build more than skill, they build confidence, community, and belonging. But for people with disabilities, access to sports and recreation isnโ€™t always equal. Cost, transportation, and adaptive equipment can create barriers to participation and opportunity.

Our newest blog explores the history of the adaptive sports movement, the legacy Joe Bravo built through it, and how we can all help create more opportunities for people of all abilities to get in the game!
