🧭 NY Connects: One Call Can Open the Door to Real Solutions

Sometimes a problem starts with something simple—a broken furnace, difficulty keeping up with household tasks, a housing crisis, a job search, or trouble getting to medical appointments.

That's where NY Connects comes in. 💙

NY Connects is a free information, referral, and assistance resource that helps New Yorkers navigate the complicated network of aging, disability, health, housing, transportation, employment, and supportive services.

Here are just a few ways NY Connects can help:
🔥 Home Heating & Energy Assistance — reviewing HEAP, Weatherization, and NYSERDA options
🏠 Housing & Rental Assistance — identifying DSS rental assistance and housing programs
💼 Employment Support — connecting consumers with career centers for job placement, resume assistance, and workforce training
🚗 Medicaid Transportation — explaining how to establish non-emergency medical transportation
🏡 Help at Home — connecting consumers with Medicaid Personal Care Services, EISEP, and other in-home support
👨‍👩‍👧 Advocacy & Care Planning — helping families understand their options and next steps

📚 Back to school means back to advocacy, for parents and students alike.

For parents, that means understanding your child's rights and working confidently with schools to make sure the right supports are in place. For students, it means knowing your strengths, your needs, and how to speak up, whether that's with a teacher, a counselor, or a classmate.

🙋 Self-advocacy is a skill you build together, and it can make all the difference in how a school year goes.

WILC's Educational Advocacy team is here to support families navigating special education services all year long.

August is Eye Exam Month! 👁️

Regular eye exams do more than check your vision, they can catch early signs of glaucoma, diabetes, and other health conditions before symptoms even show up. If it's been a while since your last visit, this is your sign to schedule one.
