NEDA is excited to be part of NYC PrideFest on June 28th in the West Village!

We'll be connecting with attendees, sharing resources, and helping raise awareness about eating disorders and body image concerns within LGBTQ+ communities.

To make this event a success, we're looking for volunteers to help staff the NEDA table throughout the day. This is a great opportunity to support NEDA's mission, engage with the community, and celebrate Pride.

This Pride Month, we're honored to share Riley Summers' personal story, Coming Out Liberated Me.

Riley reflects on growing up questioning their sexuality, navigating an eating disorder, and the years spent chasing validation through impossible beauty standards. Through recovery, coming out as a le***an, and exploring their gender identity, Riley found something they had been searching for all along: freedom from the expectations that told them who they should be.

Their story is a powerful reminder that recovery and self-acceptance are possible, and that every person deserves the opportunity to live authentically.

Whether you're LGBTQ+, in recovery, supporting a loved one, or simply looking to better understand the connection between identity and body image, we invite you to read Riley's story.

There are an estimated 50 million people worldwide living with eating disorders. And despite prevalence rates increasing, understanding and awareness have not kept up.

This World Eating Disorders Action Day (WEDAD), we’re proud to join a global movement to Stop Stigma. Start Care. Together.

We can work to Stop Stigma by sharing the truth that…
📣 Eating disorders can impact anyone – no matter their gender, weight, age, ethnicity or socioeconomic background
💭 Eating disorders are not diets gone wrong or a choice – they are mental illnesses
👀 You can’t always tell if someone has an eating disorder – they don’t have a ‘look’

We can Start Care by acting early and supporting access to evidence-based treatment – and remember, recovery is possible no matter the duration of someone’s illness.

This , play your part by learning about eating disorders, understanding the signs, and supporting early intervention and access to care.

Find support in your country via 🇦🇺 Butterfly Foundation, 🇨🇦 NEDIC - National Eating Disorder Information Centre, 🇺🇸 National Alliance for Eating Disorders, National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), 🇮🇪 Bodywhys, 🇬🇧 Beat

This Men’s Mental Health Month, we’re continuing to break the stigma.

Eating disorders do not discriminate. Men deserve support, understanding, and space to speak openly about their experiences.

Seeking help is not a weakness. It’s a step toward healing.

We’re proud to collaborate with to help normalize these conversations and expand access to support for everyone.

You’re not alone.

“Hey, you crossed my mind today.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”

“Thank you for texting. I actually really needed this today.”

Sometimes the smallest message can make the biggest difference. You never truly know what someone may be going through behind closed doors.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, check in on your people. Start the conversation. Reach out.

One message can mean more than you know.
