Today, NYSUT President Melinda Person sent an open letter to State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa, Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. and the members of the Board of Regents calling for statewide guardrails on artificial intelligence in schools — with heightened protections for AI that is humanoid or built to mimic human relationships. The letter follows the Salamanca City Central School District's decision Friday to pause its plan to place an AI robot "teaching assistant" in a high school classroom. Tell Governor Kathy Hochul to say no to vouchers and to protect our public schools.

New Yorkers agree: public tax dollars belong in public schools – not helping to pay private tuition for families who can afford to send their children to exclusive private institutions.

The governor must not opt New York into the federal private school voucher tax credit program. Every dollar diverted to private schools is a dollar out away from the public schools that serve 90% of New York's kids.
