Recently, a student from Matula Elementary School named Audra decided to sell her paintings to raise money to purchase stuffed animals for sick children at a local hospital. Despite facing many challenges, she persevered and never gave up.

Upon hearing about her mission, IAFF Local 4658 came together to support this valiant effort in supporting the community. Local 4658 matched the $184 that Audra had already raised to double the funds available to her to support her mission.

IAFF Local 4658 recently met with Audra and her family to receive the stuffed animals and show them where they would be placed on Charles County Department of Emergency Services ambulances to assist in making a sick child feel better during calls for emergencies.

Inspired by Audra’s kindness, and in an effort to continue to support Audra’s mission in the future, members of IAFF Local 4658 also collected donations of painting supplies to ensure her works of art continue to encourage and inspire our youth to support our community.

Strong work Audra!

Due to the continued staffing shortage, Charles County has two vital units out of service this morning. The DES staffed Basic Life Support Ambulance from the Charles County Mobile Intensive Care Unit, as well as one of the DES staffed Advanced Life Support Ambulances from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department - EMS 3 are out of service and unable to respond to calls due to no staffing.

This continued trend should be concerning to the citizens of Charles County. With the continued exponential growth along with the constant disregard to adequate upgrades of infrastructure to support the growth, the public are the ones that end up suffering.
