These loans give Native American Veterans the opportunity to obtain housing with no down payments, limited closing costs, and no monthly mortgage-insurance costs.

The new mission statement is inclusive of all those who have served in our nation’s military — including women Veterans — as well as Veteran families, caregivers, and survivors. VA currently serves more than 600,000 women Veterans, the fastest growing cohort of Veterans. VA also serves more than 50,000 Veteran caregivers, more than 600,000 Veteran survivors, and millions of Veterans who did not serve in combat.
VA announces goal to house 38,000+ Veterans experiencing homelessness in 2023
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced its 2023 goals for preventing and ending Veteran homelessness. Specifically, in 2023, VA will:
Place at least 38,000 Veterans experiencing homelessness into permanent housing.
Ensure that at least 95% of the Veterans housed in 2023 do not return to homelessness during the year. And of those who return to homelessness, VA will ensure that at least 90% are rehoused or on a path to rehousing by the end of 2023.
Engage with at least 28,000 unsheltered Veterans to help them obtain housing and other wraparound services. This goal represents a more than 10% increase in the number of unsheltered Veterans reached during 2022.

Social Security Celebrates Women's History Month
March is Women’s History Month, a perfect time to recognize, reflect on, and celebrate the contributions of women today and throughout history. This year’s theme is Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories. We are proud to join the nation in recognizing the incredible impact women have on our society. Women make critical contributions to the labor force in diverse industries. Their stories elevate women’s voices everywhere and make the world a better place.
One woman who has spearheaded important research about the importance of Social Security to women is Dr. Heidi Hartmann, founder, and former president of the Institute of Women’s Policy Research. An expert in women’s issues and economics, she has dedicated her career to researching and addressing economic security policy for women. You can read more about Dr. Hartmann and her work on
our blog. Be sure to subscribe to blog updates when you visit the page.
Please also remind all of the women in your life that one of the best ways to plan for retirement is to open a personal my Social Security account to get estimates of future retirement benefits. It is a good idea to check your estimates every year.
More information for women is available on our Social Security for Women webpage.
