Introducing our new series: Good Stories 💙

Every case is about people — and today, we’re sharing one that mattered deeply to us.

After three consecutive winters without reliable heat and hot water, we helped a tenant and their family hold their landlord accountable. The result: a settlement requiring the landlord to pay over $10,000 to Con Edison, and most importantly, helping the family safely leave an unlivable apartment and move forward with dignity.

🕊️ Standing Up for Survivors 🕊️

HVJC was honored to be in attendance as Joseph Petito, father of Gabby Petito, urged New York lawmakers to pass the Lethality Assessment Bill — a critical step toward protecting victims of domestic violence.

This proposed legislation would require law enforcement to assess the level of danger in domestic violence situations and connect survivors with life-saving resources.

At HVJC, we remain deeply committed to advocating for victims, supporting survivors, and working toward a future where everyone can feel safe in their own home. 💙
