President Bierbaum spent the last two days on Capitol Hill thanks to the American Organization of Nurse Leaders Advocacy Day. The congressional requests included: 1) Co-sponsoring the Save Healthcare Workers Act (S.1600/H.R. 3178), 2) Co-sponsoring the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (S.1874/H.R.3593), and 3) Supporting Recognizing Nursing as a Professional Degree. Productive meetings took place with legislative correspondents for Senators Van Hollen and Angela D. Alsobrooks, as well as with Representative Glenn Ivey, who was highly engaged. The team for Congressman Steny Hoyer also deserves mention.

The District 9 team hosted a special networking event at the Port of Leonardtown Winery, where five out of six awards were presented, including the prestigious Paula Luskus Heart of Service award, which was bestowed upon our very own Cathy. We celebrated the dedication and hard work of southern Maryland nurses and collected numerous donations for the food pantry.

MNA District 9 hosted a successful annual Spring Dinner event on Tuesday evening, June 3rd, at Prime Street Grill in White Plains, Maryland. The event featured a presentation by Kara Curry, a Senior Policy Advisor at ANA, who discussed the new 2025 Code of Ethics. The code's development and its application to various aspects of nursing care delivery were meticulously outlined. This year's event was attended by MNA's Executive Director, Dr. Barbara Bierdrzycki; Laural Brinkley, the CNO from Calvert Health; and Dr. Karen Wyche-Latham, the CNO from MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, and many more. The evening also included the Districts Nursing Student of the Quarter award. This years recipient was Jazlyn Hernandez.
