Happy Veterans Day!

Frank Randolph served as a First Lieutenant in the United States army and was wounded twice, for which he was decorated. After his discharge in 1946 he was one of the first African American police officers to be appointed to the Richmond Police Department and was later the first to be promoted to Detective Lieutenant. Today we thank him and all Veterans for their service!

Lillian Randolph loved to make her signature Lemon Chess Pies for family and friends. Today in her honor we have donated several of Lil’s Lemon Chess Pies to Saint Bernadette’s Annual Fall Festival Bake Sale.

Let’s us know in the comments whether we should sell them at our next fundraiser? Would you purchase one for our Gift of Hearing Program?

Wishing Frank Stockton Randolph a Happy Birthday!!!

Frank Randolph was born in Richmond, VA. He attended Armstrong High School and later graduated from Virginia Union University. He then served as a First Lieutenant in the United States army and was wounded twice, for which he was decorated. After his discharge in 1946 he was one of the first African American police officers to be appointed to the Richmond Police Department and was later the first to be promoted to Detective Lieutenant.

In an article Recalling his 17-Year Career in the Richmond Times-Dispatch in 1963, Officer Randolph describes his first day as an officer: "I was so apprehensive I wouldn't even ride the bus...One man passed me in his car and did a double take and almost ran up on the sidewalk; he'd never seen a Negro policeman before-and neither had I."
