**I Left My Toothbrush**

In the heart of Haiti’s trembling soul, we poured our private funds into Ti ‘Ôtel La, a nine-bedroom, six-bathroom sanctuary born from hope and private hands. It stood as a beacon in our village, a promise of refuge and renewal. On our last journey, Sam and I wove our honeymoon into its walls, a fleeting week of bliss in what I dared to call my Haitian home. From my bedroom window, I drank in the view—dusty trails, vibrant voices, a land both fierce and fragile. I believed we’d return to set this hotel haven ablaze with its destined purpose.

But fate laughed. That final morning, Sam and I, bleary-eyed and unkempt, snapped a photo before racing to the airport, bound for the United States. I left my toothbrush, my clothes, my makeup, my toiletries sitting in the vanity. They were tokens of a future I was sure would come. I didn’t know Haiti would spiral into chaos, locking me out of my second home. Six years have bled by, each day a prayer unanswered. The village cries for rescue, and my heart aches to return, to reclaim what was left behind. Haiti stands still, unyielding, and so does my longing. I left my toothbrush: a symbol of hope.
