Exciting news for Made in the Shade! Our friends at Horse Hugs will make their first appearance at PAI’s kickoff celebrations before returning for their second year at the Made in the Shade 5K Walk, Run & Roll.

Participants, staff, families, and community members will have an opportunity to meet the miniature horses and enjoy this special addition to the celebrations. We’re excited to welcome Horse Hugs as we count down to the main event!

Participants at PAI-Commerce have been busy building volcanoes from scratch! They started by creating frames with cardboard and crumpled newspaper before covering them with a mixture of plaster of Paris, water, and paper towels.

The volcanoes still have a few weeks to go before they’re ready to erupt, but we can’t wait to share the final results!

After the Linden DSP awards were presented, staff surprised their supervisor, Ricquia, with an appreciation award of her own. Along with a certificate, they gave her a handmade bouquet filled with words of encouragement.

The surprise was a thoughtful way for staff to recognize Ricquia’s leadership and show how much they appreciate her. Congratulations, Ricquia!

Each year, PAI Program Directors and Supervisors coordinate the Site Awards to recognize some of the inspiring and dedicated Direct Support Professionals. Staff are treated to a catered lunch before the peer-voted award winners are announced.

Four main awards are presented: Person-Centered Advocate, Program Champion, Team Player, and Rookie of the Year. One of the most meaningful parts of the celebration is hearing the kind words staff share about why each winner was selected.

After more than seven years with PAI, our Chief Operating Officer, Alicia McCallum (pictured left), wrapped up her time with the organization this month. Alicia has played an important role in PAI’s success, and her impact will continue to be felt across the organization. While we are sad to see Alicia go, we are grateful for her years of leadership and wish her the best in what comes next.

As we say goodbye to Alicia, we are very pleased to share that Senior Program Director, Cortney Kelly (pictured right), has been promoted to Vice President of Operations, assuming Alicia’s scope of responsibilities! For the past seven years, Cortney has been an important part of PAI’s programming. We look forward to seeing her bring that same dedication and experience to the full set of programs and support functions that make PAI services come to life.

“We are excited to see Cortney step into this role. Her experience, leadership, and commitment to participants and staff will help guide PAI forward,” said Mike Miner, President of PAI, adding that “Alicia has been an important part of PAI’s growth, and we are grateful for everything she has contributed over the last seven years.”

Participants in PAI Connect recently enjoyed an outing to Can Can Wonderland in Saint Paul, a vibrant space filled with arcade games, mini golf and creative art installations. Everyone had the chance to explore, choose their activities and enjoy time with one another!

As we count down to Made in the Shade 5K Walk, Run & Roll, we’re excited to share that Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield from WCCO & CBS News Minnesota will join us as this year’s emcee!

Susan-Elizabeth is known throughout the Twin Cities for sharing stories that highlight positivity, empowerment and community. We look forward to welcoming her as we celebrate 35 years of Made in the Shade.
