Such an amazing update! Thank you Whiskeytown National Recreation Area for sharing! ๐ฑ
Big step forward for Whiskeytown.
The National Park Service has completed the Environmental Assessment process for rebuilding the Whiskeytown Environmental School campus, marking an important milestone toward restoring this valued educational resource. Following careful analysis, public input, and environmental review, a Finding of No Significant Impact and Floodplain Statement of Findings have been issued, confirming the project can proceed with the right protections in place.
The new campus design reflects lessons learned from past wildfire and environmental conditions, with a focus on resilience, sustainability, and long-term durability. The plan was designed to balance educational use with protection of the natural and cultural resources that make Whiskeytown National Recreation Area special.
The Whiskeytown Environmental School gives students meaningful time outdoors โ sparking curiosity, deepening their sense of place, and inspiring a lifelong connection to science, history, and stewardship.
