Big step forward for Whiskeytown.

The National Park Service has completed the Environmental Assessment process for rebuilding the Whiskeytown Environmental School campus, marking an important milestone toward restoring this valued educational resource. Following careful analysis, public input, and environmental review, a Finding of No Significant Impact and Floodplain Statement of Findings have been issued, confirming the project can proceed with the right protections in place.

The new campus design reflects lessons learned from past wildfire and environmental conditions, with a focus on resilience, sustainability, and long-term durability. The plan was designed to balance educational use with protection of the natural and cultural resources that make Whiskeytown National Recreation Area special.

The Whiskeytown Environmental School gives students meaningful time outdoors โ€” sparking curiosity, deepening their sense of place, and inspiring a lifelong connection to science, history, and stewardship.

Whiskeytown Environmental School Community Board is thrilled to welcome Paula Daniel as our newest member ๐Ÿค—

This is a true full circle moment. Paula first experienced WES as a fifth grade student and still has her nature journal from that time. Now she is stepping into a role where she can help shape the same kind of meaningful outdoor learning experiences for students across Shasta County and beyond.

Paula brings a powerful blend of educator insight and leadership experience along with a deep passion for expanding access to outdoor learning, sparking curiosity, and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

So great to welcome you back, Paula ๐ŸŒฑ
