About FOWI
Friends of Whiskeytown, Inc.
In order to help the park service encourage healthy living and better stewardship of our local environment, Friends of Whiskeytown, Inc. has funded a number of projects in the park, including:
✅ With a grant from People in Parks, FOWI and the National Park Service built the brand new Oak Bottom Amphitheater Shade Structure in 2024!
✅ With a grant from Redding Rancheria, FOWI purchased 2 stand up paddleboards for the National Park Service Ranger-led Tour Program in 2024!
This is FOWI’s 23rd year supporting the National Park Service at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
We assist them with projects where there is limited funding from the National Park Service, yet desired by the community.
Our fundraising helps the community in
connecting to Whiskeytown's special outdoor places and resources. Listed below are some of the activities we support.
If you have enjoyed any of our activities or know someone who would, please consider donating so we can continue these worthwhile projects. To read more about us, please visit our website at:

About Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Whiskeytown is one of almost 430 parks within the National Park System. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was established in 1965 to protect Whiskeytown Lake and surrounding habitat and to provide outdoor recreation opportunities for the people of the United States. The park protects an immensity of over 1100 different native plant species and preserves historic sites associated with the Wintu People and California Gold Rush. Whiskeytown is visited by around one million people each year. Visitors primarily enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and camping. The vast majority of the park has been restored and reopened from the 2018 Carr Fire which burned 97% of the national recreation area and destroyed over 100 structures. For more information, visit the park website or connect with them on Facebook or Instagram.
