Fire Prevention Week | October 4–10, 2026 🔥🔋

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is:
“Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we rely on every day, including phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, and other rechargeable equipment. When damaged, improperly charged, or used with incompatible charging equipment, these batteries can create a serious fire risk.

At SET Environmental, safety is something we practice every day. Fire Prevention Week is a good reminder that simple habits can make a difference:

- Use the charger designed or approved for your device.
- Charge devices on a hard, stable surface rather than a bed, couch, or other soft material.
- Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, leaking, or producing an unusual odor.
- Avoid overcharging devices and unplug them when charging is complete.
- Keep charging equipment and batteries away from exits and evacuation pathways.

Whether at work or at home, safe charging is one more way we can help prevent fires before they happen.

At SET Environmental, Inc., safety is more than a priority. It is a core value that influences how we plan our work, make decisions, and look out for one another.

Our Life-Saving Rules reinforce six expectations that help keep safety at the center of everything we do:

1. Stop Work
If you believe an unsafe condition exists, stop the work and speak up.

2. Drive Safely
Buckle up, stay focused, and eliminate distractions behind the wheel.

3. Eliminate Sources of Ignition
Recognize and control potential ignition sources when working around flammable materials.

4. Stay Out of the Line-of-Fire
Be aware of heavy equipment, traffic, suspended loads, and other hazards that could put you in harm's way.

5. Protect Yourself From Falls
Recognize fall hazards and use required fall protection.

6. Identify and Manage Hazards
Evaluate and document potential hazards before the work begins.

These rules are simple, but their purpose is significant. They reinforce a culture where everyone has a responsibility to recognize hazards, make safe decisions, and look out for the people working beside them.

When an environmental incident occurs, response matters.💪

Recently, SET Environmental’s Emergency Response team was called into action to support a spill impacting a waterway. Our crews mobilized to help contain the release, protect the surrounding environment, and support recovery and cleanup efforts.

Working both on the water and along the shoreline, the team deployed containment measures and recovered impacted material while maintaining a strong focus on safety and environmental protection.

Situations like this demonstrate why experience, preparation, and the ability to mobilize the right people and resources are so important.

Environmental incidents can develop quickly, and an effective response requires teams that are prepared to assess changing conditions and adapt as the work progresses.

PFAS Awareness Week may be ending, but the work continues.

This week, we’ve focused on why PFAS matter, how they can affect people and the environment, and the importance of investigation, monitoring, prevention, and remediation.

But addressing PFAS is not a one-week effort.

Protecting our communities and natural resources requires continued awareness, sound science, responsible environmental practices, and collaboration among businesses, regulators, environmental professionals, and the communities we serve.

PFAS Awareness Week: Protecting the environment also means protecting people.

PFAS have been used for decades in a wide range of products and industrial applications. Because many PFAS break down very slowly, they can persist in the environment and may be found in water, soil, wildlife, and people.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, exposure to certain PFAS has been associated with potential health effects, which is why understanding where PFAS are present and reducing exposure continues to be an important public health and environmental priority.

PFAS Awareness Week begins today.

SET Environmental, Inc. and SET Engineering are proud to support the Minnesota Department of Health and its partners as they recognize September 21–25 as PFAS Awareness Week.

PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals,” have become an increasingly important environmental and public health concern because of their persistence in the environment and their presence in groundwater, surface water, consumer products, and industrial processes.

Minnesota has been working to address PFAS for more than two decades through science, monitoring, prevention, regulation, and coordinated efforts across state agencies. PFAS Awareness Week provides an opportunity to continue that conversation and increase understanding of what PFAS are, where they may be found, and what can be done to reduce future impacts.

At SET Environmental, Inc. and SET Engineering, protecting people and the environment is at the heart of what we do. From environmental investigation and remediation to compliance, waste management, and emergency response, we see firsthand the importance of understanding emerging environmental challenges and developing practical solutions to address them.

💧 Protecting Groundwater Through Precision Sampling

At SET Environmental, Inc., environmental stewardship starts with quality data.

Our Engineering team recently completed groundwater monitoring well sampling for a client in support of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) regulatory compliance. Using low-flow sampling methods, our field professionals collected groundwater samples for laboratory analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)—an important step in evaluating groundwater conditions while minimizing disturbance to the well and improving sample quality.

Groundwater monitoring is a critical component of ongoing site investigations, regulatory compliance, and environmental risk management. From field sampling to technical reporting, our Engineering team provides the expertise and support clients need to navigate complex environmental requirements with confidence.
