Due to the unfortunate power outage that is effecting the area near Oglebay, we have to cancel today’s butterfly event. Please keep your eye out because we will be having many incredible butterfly programs throughout the summer. 🦋

Seeing a swarm of honey bees will never get old to us. Three of our Naturalists, Ramsay, Spencer, and Mackenzie have gone through bee keeping courses and at the center we have our own hive so you can imagine we were very excited to walk outside and spot them today. They sure picked a windy day to swarm. This time of year honey bee swarms are common and if you see one, have no fear. They’re just trying to find a new home and are very docile/vulnerable. Get ahold of your local beekeeper and they’ll be overjoyed you called. 🐝

Just a reminder that we have our new age group “The Adventure Club” for kids in 4th to 7th grade tomorrow from 1:30-3 with Ms. Mackenzie! We’ll be exploring the magic of spring wild flowers by going on a hike by the center and talking about them! $16 for non OI members and $14 for members!

We believe that the Earth should be celebrated every day but how wonderful it is that we have another excuse to go outside and explore the magic around us. Happy Earth Day! Our Naturalists celebrated by going to Bear Rock Lake this afternoon and checking out all the flora and fauna it had to offer on this beautiful spring day. How did you guys celebrate Earth day? 🌎🌱

And just like that our 3rd grade in-school field trips with Ohio County Schools for this year have come to an end. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such great kids and staff year after year. I don’t know who enjoys it more.. us naturalists or the kids! We’re looking forward to the upcoming field trips to close out our 3rd grade REACH program for 2026 here at the center as we learn all about birds.🦉🪺

‼️Nailers Night

Unfortunately, due to the large snowfall event that we received earlier this year, the Nailers have had to reschedule a makeup game for the same night as our event. We have been working with the team to try to find a new date; however, we have been unable to find a replacement that will work within both of our schedules. In response, we have been left with the regrettable decision to cancel the event for this year.

We are so grateful for your interest in this event and hope that you are on the lookout for it next year! In the meantime, please visit us at the Schrader Center for our Maple Sugaring Days, Bunny Bash, or to try one of our many camps this summer. We also encourage you to go cheer for the Nailers at their game on the 25th.
