A 2022 Deloitte analysis estimated that roughly 20% of the world's population is neurodiverse. While neurodiversity exists within a huge spectrum of differing abilities, art therapy has demonstrated time and again its ability to connect with individuals no matter where they are in that spectrum. Margaret Naumberg was one of the first major theorists in art therapy. Beginning her practice in 1915 in New York, Naumberg opened what was essentially the first Montessori school for children, and then went on to join her sister, Florence Cane -- another founding theorist in art therapy-- in refining Dynamically Oriented Art Therapy. She often used scribble drawing as a way to engage people in the arts while tapping into the creative subconscious. Have you heard of Margaret or used scribble drawing in your own practice?
