Today, we pause to honor the lives and legacy of FF/PM Kenny Lacayo, Lt. Paul Butrim, and Lt. Kelsey Sadler, three heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on January 24, 2022.
While operating at a working fire in the 200 block of South Stricker Street, they became trapped after a partial building collapse. Their courage, commitment, and willingness to go where others could not will never be forgotten.
Kenny was a founding member of the Wheaton Honor Guard, and his impact on our team and our department is permanent. He led with quiet strength, unwavering professionalism, and a heart built for service. Kenny didn’t just wear the uniform, he lived what it stood for.
We are grateful for the relentless work of the ATF and our local partners. Because of their dedication, an individual has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with this incident.
We miss Kenny dearly. We carry his name with pride, and we will continue to honor him the way he would expect us to: with excellence, integrity, and brotherhood.
Never forgotten. Always honored. 🖤🚒
