The Concerned Father’s Association was founded on November 19, 1994, and was the brainchild of William Copeland. William’s vision was an organization dedicated to our male youth. The objectives of our organization are to promote the welfare of our members, families and friends. We want to inspire, enrich, and inform, our youths. We seek to maintain a strong sense of involvement. We actively promot

e the spirit of William’s vision through the sponsorship of activities such as a career day hosted at the Wyandanch Public Library, and the Black History Program at Half Hollow Hills Community Library. We offer community activities for our youths, such as the field trip to the Schomberg museum, our annual picnics, and softball games. The Concerned Fathers Association has also success-fully nominated two recipients of Public Service Awards presented by the Suffolk County human Rights Commission. We join the Mothers Club of Wheatley Heights in their annual celebration for Kwanzaa and Black History Month.

We’re excited to congratulate Dr. Kendall Richards as he steps into his new role as Supervisor of the South Huntington Academy! A valued member of the South Huntington family since 2018, Dr. Richards has an extensive 25 year background in education as a school social worker, dean, and assistant principal. He is transitioning from his position as AP at Walt Whitman High School to lead the Academy.
The South Huntington Academy is an alternative program that provides tailored instruction, small class environments, and specialized care for high school students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or social-emotional learning needs.
“A large school environment can be overwhelming for some students. At the Academy, class sizes are much smaller with very short class transitions and individual 1-on-1 attention. A majority of the students have IEPs or deal with social-emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, or school phobia,’ explained Dr. Richards. “My plan is to maintain a strong relationship with the entire district, especially the high school, because our curriculum and educational goals go hand-in-hand. Academy students still have to fulfill standard graduation requirements. They earn a standard high school diploma with no differences.”
