Trying something new for members and jobseekers. Let's call it "Platte County is Hiring"

Businesses need help and people need work. Those two problems should be solving each other, so let's make that happen!

For members: If you have an opening, fill out the form. It takes about two minutes. Once this is up and running, job postings will be pinned to the Chamber’s page and refreshed on our website every week. When someone on our job seeker list looks like a fit, I’ll send them your way. It’s free for members and postings stay up for 30 days.

For job seekers: If you’re looking for work, or know someone who is, get on our list. Your information is kept confidential. We’ll only share it with a hiring business when there’s a potential match or you’ve given us permission.

***The links for the forms are in the comment section***

This is one of a few changes we’re making to get the Chamber working harder for this community. More coming soon. If you have ideas or something isn’t working, please give me a call or stop by!

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Respectfully,

Kevin

Hello everyone. Kevin here. I’ve got a question for you about health insurance in our community:

As an HR guy by trade, a lot of my work has been with ranches and small businesses, and I keep seeing the same thing. It's not lost on me that many of our local businesses, ranches and farms can’t get or can’t afford the cost of a group health coverage on their own.

When you only have a handful of employees, you have very little buying power in the insurance market. You either pay small-group rates or you offer nothing.

That hurts you twice. You lose good people to employers who offer benefits and you struggle to recruit anyone into Platte County at all.

Personally, I think this is exactly the kind of problem a chamber is built to solve: pooling small players so they get treated like the big ones.

Therefore, I’m digging into whether the Chamber can make group health coverage available and affordable to our members and their employees. But before I go any further, I want to hear from you to make sure there's interest. I genuinely want to know what you’re dealing with and whether this would help.

Whether you own a business, run a ranch or work for someone here, please take 3 minutes and fill this out! Feel free to message me as well!

And if you know someone in the county who should weigh in, please share.

Respectfully,

Kevin M. Gross
Executive Director, Platte County Chamber of Commerce

You guys!!! I finally sat down to catch up on all of this and I'm truly honored by everyone already standing with me to move this community forward. It means more than you know.

For those who don't know me yet, I'm an Indiana kid who joined the Air Force and got bounced around a couple duty stations, a lot of training stops and two tours overseas before finally landing in Guernsey in 2014.

After over 11 years of service, I decided to get out in 2020 and make this place my home, instead of just another layover.

I learned early on in my career that I loved leading, teaching, supporting and helping people and organizations successful. That made me hungry to learn more about people and business, and how the two can work best together, so I went back to school for a bachelor's in business leadership and a master's in human resource management.

Now I get to put all of it to work for you!

I've got big ideas, plans and goals to share, but I want to hear yours first! Please share with me your business goals and ambitions, your roadblocks, and how I can help. I'll be showing up at your door to find out, so consider yourself warned 😜

Why does this matter to me, you ask? Well, I'd love to tell you. I chose to stay in Wyoming knowing the opportunities were limited, and I want our kids to have that same choice. I'm not asking for easy. Nothing worth having ever came easy, and it’s not lost on me that hard work never scared anybody around here.

However, a kid who's willing to work their tail off shouldn't have to leave just to make a decent living. I think the only way to change that is a willingness to keep learning and adapting, building a strong local economy, and all of us working together to create meaningful careers they can grow into right here at home.

What a privilege it is to help shape that future for the next generation. I'm grateful, I'm all in, and I can't wait to see what we can build together.

Respectfully,

Kevin
