One of the international missions of Rotary is to eradicate polio, an effort started in 1988 with the World Health Organization, when 1,000 children were infected every day in 125 countries, to less than 1,400 cases reported last year, in 4 countries. But if we don’t eradicate the disease now, the risk of crippling and deadly polio outbreaks will continue to threaten the world’s children. Learn about the challenges to polio eradication and the current strategies that Rotary and its polio eradication partners are using. You can help Rotary get the job done by contributing to Rotary’s PolioPlus program or volunteering and creating awareness of polio.

Yesterday Ray and Nick from Stellar Travel Stores talked about the history of their company and how it started. They gave us the background on why they chose Wharton and how thankful they are for the people of Wharton for welcoming them. We even got to make some suggestions on what they should add to the store! We learned a lot and hope they will be in business for years to come.

The Rotary Club of Wharton’s only major fundraiser of the year is quickly approaching, and we need our community’s support to make it a success. Join us Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wharton Civic Center for an exciting evening featuring live music by The Original Remnants, dinner catered by Hinze’s Bar-B-Que, live and silent auctions, and a drawing.

General admission tickets are $75 and include dinner and entertainment. This Gala is more than an evening of great food, music, and fellowship. The funds raised allow the Rotary Club of Wharton to continue investing in scholarships, local programs, and projects that make a meaningful difference throughout our community.

Last Monday, our Community Kindness team, along with H-E-B and the Wharton Police Department, came together to surprise Brandon Cruz with a well-deserved Community Kindness recognition. It was truly a touching moment, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room.

Many of you know Brandon from Damon’s BBQ, but we also know him for his generous heart and his commitment to serving our community. Recently, Brandon stepped up to help a young man in need with a new bicycle. When there was a great need at one of our local apartment communities, Brandon didn’t hesitate. He prepared a whole pot of spaghetti with all the fixings to help feed those in need and that’s just a small glimpse of what Brandon does for others, often without seeking any recognition. Brandon, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and all that you do for our community. This recognition was truly well deserved!

Wharton Rotary had a great group yesterday who learned all about what you do before, during and after you are involved in an altercation that involves bodily harm. Chris Martinez, with 20 years of law enforcement experience and who currently works for Law Shield as a trainer, shared great advice and practical information. Thank so much Chris for making us aware of what you should think about BEFORE you get involved. It was also Jeanie and Andy Gunter’s 50th wedding anniversary !! So we got to eat cake and give them a hard time! It’s always an adventure at Wharton Rotary! Come and join us for lunch on Wednesdays at the Wharton Civic Center.

Yesterday, the Wharton Rotary Club had the pleasure of hearing from Sophia, a Wharton Dobson member, as she shared her incredible experience attending a FIFA World Cup match.

Sophia gave us a firsthand look at what it was like to be part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events, sharing stories about the excitement, the atmosphere, and the unforgettable memories she made. Her presentation was engaging, inspiring, and a wonderful reminder of how opportunities like these can broaden perspectives and create lifelong experiences.

Today we had the honor of recognizing Mrs. Lynette Masek with the Community Kindness Award from the Wharton Rotary Club. 💙

For so many years, Mrs. Lynette has faithfully served our community through City Hall with kindness, dedication, and a heart for helping others. Her compassion and commitment have touched countless lives, making her truly deserving of this recognition.

A special thank you to Wharton H-E-B for creating the beautiful floral arrangement and helping us celebrate Mrs. Lynette on this special day. Your generosity helped make this moment even more meaningful.
