Yesterday we got the sweetest delivery from Jessica and Patrice. Jessica wanted to make these aromatherapy jars for our GED students. She said her professors gave them to their students when she was in nursing school.

We have almost 100 adults ranging in age from 16-56+ somewhere in the process of pursuing their GED, whether they just scheduled their first assessment, or are about to take one of the four GED exams. We also have students coming weekly from all around the region to test in our Pearson Vue Testing Center.

Every little bit of encouragement and support matters. We need partners willing to help us keep building programs to educate and equip Wharton County residents, but we also need people who remember what it is like to do something hard and scary and are willing to provide sweet reminders that someone cares.

Let this be a reminder to encourage someone doing something hard. Cheer on first steps, flickering hope when someone is afraid to hope, dreams that are taking shape, and someone deciding on a regular old Wednesday to begin something they didn’t finish the first time.

And if you need some encouragement to try something hard, scary, or new, give us a call. We’d love to hype you up and hope alongside you.

WHARTON COUNTY RESIDENTS: Wharton County is working to update the Wharton County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The updated plan will reevaluate the hazards identified in Wharton County. The plan is developed in response to Federal programs that enable the partnership to use pre- and post-disaster financial assistance to reduce the exposure of County residents to risks associated with hazards.

In order to identify and plan for future natural disasters, Wharton County needs your assistance. The questionnaire is designed to help gauge the level of knowledge local citizens already have about disaster issues and to identify areas vulnerable to various types of disasters. The information you provide will help coordinate activities to reduce the risk of injury or property damage in the future.

The survey consists of 33 questions plus an opportunity for any additional comments at the end. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete and is anonymous.
