Rainbow Room-Wharton-Matagorda Counties MISSION STATEMENT

To provide the immediate resources for the Children taken into Child Protective Services care for Wharton and Matagorda Counties.

The Rainbow Room is a 501(C)(3) charitable non-profit operated by community volunteers. The Rainbow Room is in place to assist with the needs of children who have been removed from their home and have not yet been placed in a foster home. Many times the children leave their home without their clothing and or their favorite things. We provide clothing, shoes, hygiene items but we also provide beds

and bedding when necessary, when the child reaches their foster home. Our only means of income is from donations. The board meets six (6) times per year. 3 in Wharton County and 3 in Matagorda County. Donations can be made to PO Box 411, Wharton, TX 77488.

The drawing for these items will be tonight May 7, 2026, at 8:00 pm. Stay tuned for Mother’s Day gift.

HELP US MAKE THE SIGNS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMON KNOWLEDGE!

THE POWER AND CONTROL WHEEL: All abusive behavior is designed to allow an abuser to achieve and maintain power and control. This wheel is helpful for understanding the overall pattern of abusive and violent behaviors, which are used by the abuser to establish and maintain control over his/her partner.

Together, we can shine a light, speak out, and support survivors.

THE CYCLE OF ABUSE ~ EXPLAINED SIMPLY

Domestic abuse often follows a cycle with four stages:

• Tension Building-
Stress, anger, or control starts building. Victims feel like they’re "walking on eggshells."

• Incident-
The abuse happens (physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, etc.).

• Reconciliation-
The abuser may apologize, make excuses, or shift blame.

• Calm-
Things seem “normal” again. The abuser may act loving or say it won’t happen again.

This cycle can happen over weeks or in just minutes/hours.

That unpredictability traps victims in confusion, fear, and false hope, making it extremely hard to leave. Recognizing the cycle is the first step toward breaking it.
