A Special Visit to Stars School!
What a wonderful morning celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Month at Stars School!

On October 13, we had the honor of welcoming Secretary Steve Zrike MA of Education Dr. Stephen Zrike to our school in Weymouth for meaningful conversations about literacy, educator preparation, and the importance of helping every child become a confident, successful learner.

Secretary Zrike shared personal reflections from his early teaching career, reminding us just how important evidence-based reading instruction and well-prepared educators are for children who learn differently.

We were delighted to bring together so many individuals who have been part of the Stars School journey, including South Shore Stars CEO Dr. Renée Heywood, Stars School Director Rich Bransfield, former South Shore Stars CEO Dr. Jennifer Curtis Whipple and Nancy Duggan, Executive Director of Decoding Dyslexia-MA and a South Shore Stars Board member.

We are also grateful to Senator Patrick O'Connor whose early support helped connect families with South Shore Stars and contributed to the conversations that led to the school's founding.

And a special acknowledgment to Tamborella, Breton, Anastasia Frank and our dedicated educators and staff, whose hard work, commitment, and care have helped build this school and welcome more families into our community.

When Stars School opened in September 2025, we welcomed five students. Today, in our second year, we're proud to serve 15 students in grades 1–8. What a difference a year makes!

Most importantly, this celebration was about our students and families, whose determination, courage, and belief in what's possible inspire everything we do.

Thank you, Secretary Zrike, for spending the morning with us and for helping shine a light on the importance of literacy education.

As we step into Dyslexia Awareness Month, those words have special meaning for Stars School Director Richard Bransfield.
For Rich, what starts with a child feeling understood can change how they see themselves. What starts with the right instruction can open doors. And what starts with an educator believing in a student can influence that child’s path for years to come.
That belief is at the heart of Rich’s leadership at Stars School and our commitment to students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

Because when students receive the right instruction and support, they can thrive — academically, emotionally, and beyond the classroom. Language. Literacy. Confidence.

Now THAT’S how you wrap up an incredible summer! 🌟

We simply couldn’t have closed out another phenomenal season at Stars Day Camp without our amazing friends from Street!

After a summer filled with fun, friendships and memories for 300+ kids, this incredible crew rolled up their sleeves and got to WORK — taking down tents, sealing picnic tables, removing tarps and helping us get camp ready for the off-season.

And a very special shout-out to Stars Board Member Ryan Hayes, who ALWAYS knows how to rally an unbelievable State Street Corporation Spirit of State Street team! See you in the spring! 💛

What an incredible day for our 11th Annual Fore Stars Golf Tournament at South Shore Country Club!

Picture-perfect weather, a packed course, lots of laughs, and a Stars community that showed up in a BIG way.

Together, we raised more than $75,000 to help create opportunities for the children and families of South Shore Stars. And that’s what makes this day about so much more than golf.

From the first tee to the final raffle ticket, Fore Stars was filled with friendship, generosity, friendly competition and a whole lot of fun.
