UF / IFAS Extension Gulf County

UF / IFAS Extension Gulf County We provide scientifically based agricultural, human and natural resource knowledge that citizens use.

Description
The Gulf County Extension Office conducts research-based educational programs in agriculture, horticulture, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development. Programs are designed to meet various age groups, economic levels and social situations. Programs of the Gulf County Extension Office are open to all individuals and groups regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national

origin, or handicap. General Information
The Cooperative Extension Service is a nationwide informal educational system created by the federal Smith-Lever Act of 1914. It is a partnership between state land grant universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the county governments throughout the nation. All of these groups share in the planning, financing, and operation of extension programs. Funding and programs are provided jointly by the federal, state and local government partners. Here, that's the USDA, UF/IFAS and the Gulf County Board of County Commissioners. The University of Florida welcomes your comments on our social media posts and encourages interaction among Gators around the world. Exciting morning for the UF/IFAS Gulf County Extension team as we officially kicked off the Panhandle Mangrove Honey Project! 🌿🍯🐝

With the help of Blue-Eyed Girl Honey, we placed 12 bee hives in the mangroves off the St. Joe Bay Buffer Preserve to begin researching whether bees in the bay will choose the mangrove blooms over other local pollination sources to create honey!

This project will help us learn more about pollinators, local ecosystems, and the unique potential for mangrove honey production in the Florida Panhandle.

A big thank you to everyone involved in making this project possible. Stay tuned for more from the hives!

πŸ―πŸ‹ Gulf County UF/IFAS Extension had a wonderful time at the Wewahitchka Tupelo Honey Festival! Our 4-H members stayed busy making delicious honey lemonade and handing out samples to festival visitors throughout the day.

Visitors also stopped by to chat with our Master Gardeners, who shared helpful information about native pollinating plants and ways to support bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators in our community. 🐝🌼
