🇺🇸: I have directed flags across Alabama to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

As we remember these heroes, let us also continue praying for the men and women who keep Alabama safe.

05/14/2026

During National Police Week, we pause to honor the brave men and women who wear the badge and serve their communities with courage, sacrifice and dedication each day.

We are especially grateful for our strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies across Alabama and throughout the nation. Together, we work tirelessly to protect our communities, support one another and uphold the mission of public safety.

Thank you to all who serve and to the families who stand beside them. Your commitment and sacrifice never go unnoticed.

From ALEA A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5:02 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, has claimed the life of a Thomasville man. Dallas L. Hinton, 25, was fatally injured when the 2023 Dodge Charger he was driving struck the rear of the 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Armon L. Washington, 66, of Mobile. After the initial impact, the Dodge caught fire. Hinton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hinton, an officer with the Thomasville Police Department, was on duty in his assigned patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred on U.S. 43 near the 90 mile marker, in Clarke County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

And this statement…

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Secretary Hal Taylor,
joined Governor Kay Ivey in issuing the following statement concerning fallen Thomasville Police Officer Dallas Hinton, who tragically lost his life in a traffic crash on Wednesday, April 22, while on duty:

“Today Alabama sadly mourns the loss of Thomasville Police Officer Dallas Hinton who lost his life this week while on duty. Officer Hinton was both a devoted protector and a patriot. The sacrifice of any police officer comes as a sudden and heavy blow. Officer Hinton’s loss at such an early age is especially painful. A proud United States Marine, he brought to work the same courage and commitment to duty he forged in service to our country. I join with all Alabamians in sending our heartfelt prayers to Officer Hinton’s family, friends and colleagues at the Thomasville Police Department.

While Officer Hinton may have been taken very early, his passion and devotion to serve will never be forgotten,” said Governor Ivey.

ALEA Secretary Taylor said, “Yesterday, our state lost a dedicated public servant, and today, we grieve alongside the Thomasville Police Department and the loved ones of Officer Dallas Hinton, whose life was taken far too soon in the line of duty. At just 25 years old, Officer Hinton had already lived a life defined by service, first as a United States Marine, and then as a law enforcement officer committed to protecting his community. That kind of dedication speaks to the very core of who he was.

On behalf of the entire Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and fellow officers. We stand with you in this time of profound loss, and we honor Officer Hinton’s life, his service and his legacy. Alabama has lost a true public servant, and he will always be remembered.”
