Our June meeting was our annual Scholarship Dinner, one of our favorite events! We presented checks to several outstanding local students to assist them on their way to college. Thank you to Tony Martino and the Scholarship Committee for their hard work. Also, at the meeting, Rino Mozzicato was sworn in as a new member by Co-President Lori Willin. Welcome Rino!

At our last meeting the chapter approved distributing almost $35,000 to charities and scholarships from our fundraising events. All of the revenue we raise, we donate.

We contributed to Wethersfield Football, Little League, and Soccer; we will be a major sponsor for the AFT Veteran's Wall; we are sending kids to summer camp; we donated to CT Food Share, CT National Guard, Adelbrook Children's Home, CT Alliance of Foster & Adoptive Families, Coats for the homeless, Fishing Derby, Safe Graduation, High School Band uniforms, Wethersfield Art League, Wethersfield PD National Night Out, Cancer Research, and the ARC. On Wednesday we will be giving out $25,000 in Book Awards to local students.

Thank you to everyone that supports us, we cannot do this without you!

Wethersfield UNICO is participating again this year in Old Wethersfield’s Bikes on Main. The bikes are displayed for the month May. Stroll along Main St and see over 80 bike displays. This year's theme is America 250. We have combined it with Wethersfield UNICO’s 50th Anniversary. Awesome job by Sue Oades, Nick D’Eramo, Lori Willin, and Mike Rizzo!

Tony Schiavone's family graciously requested any memorial donations in Tony's memory be directed to our chapter. Many people have donated and for that we are grateful. This post is to remind everyone how Tony was always there for us and for the community. It was Tony's idea to raise money for front line workers during Covid so that we able live up to our motto of "Service Above Self" during the crisis. We provided lunches or snacks for hundreds of police, fire, teachers, medical, and more. We also bought gift certificates from struggling restaurants to disburse to members of the community who were most vulnerable. Tony was our Treasurer for over twenty years, never missed meetings, helped raise thousands of dollars for scholarships, helped coordinate most of our fundraising events, and was on our board forever. For this and much more Tony was named a "UNICAN of the Year in 2024. We hope you will help us celebrate Tony's legacy by contributing to a special fund which we are going to use to memorialize him. Thank you to Mike Rizzo and Sue Marino, chapter members that designed and cleaned up a flower bed on the Town Green for the Village Improvement Association as part of UNICO National's Day of Service. Great job Mike and Sue!

This is a reminder that this year the Keane Foundation/Wethersfield UNICO Golf Tournament is dedicated to our dear friend Tony Santucci who passed away a few months ago. We had these pins made up for the attendees. If everyone would "Be Like Tony" the world would be a more beautiful place.

We lost another giant of our chapter this week. Tony Schiavone, our longtime Treasurer, and all-around extremely valuable member, passed away. We couldn't have done half of what we have accomplished over the years without Tony's contributions. He spearheaded our effort to feed frontline workers, teachers, and those in need during Covid. He recently raised thousands of dollars for our Tony Santucci scholarship drive. He was always at the front table for our Macaroni Dinner handling the finances, and too many other examples of Tony's "Service Above Self". We will dearly miss him at our meetings offering opinions and advice in his own inimitable way. Here is the link to the service information:
