Yesterday, the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling, the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation issued a joint press release to media outlets across Connecticut applauding recent state actions to enforce oversight of prediction markets and protect Connecticut consumers.

The coalition expressed its support for the State of Connecticut’s lawsuit against Kalshi, as well as the recent federal court decision reinforcing Connecticut’s authority to enforce its gaming laws related to sports event contracts.

As prediction markets and other emerging products continue to evolve, Connecticut residents deserve the same strong standards of oversight and consumer protection that are expected throughout the state’s regulated gaming environment.

The coalition also commended Governor Ned Lamont, Attorney General William Tong, Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli and state officials for their continued efforts to defend Connecticut’s regulatory framework and ensure meaningful consumer safeguards remain in place.

We commend the federal court’s decision to allow Connecticut to continue enforcing its gambling laws as the legal challenge involving prediction markets moves forward.

This ruling reinforces Connecticut’s authority to uphold important consumer protections and ensure that sports wagering is conducted within the state’s established regulatory framework.

Strong oversight matters, especially when it comes to protecting young people and those at risk for gambling related harm.
We applaud Connecticut officials for continuing to prioritize consumer protection and public health.

What could your students create with $5,000?

The 2026–2027 Connecticut Youth & Gambling Awareness Project Grant is now accepting applications! CREC and DMHAS Problem Gambling Services are offering grants of up to $5,000 to groups working with youth to develop creative, youth-led PSA videos that raise awareness about problem gambling and connect young people with available resources.

Selected groups will receive training and support throughout the project and have the opportunity to showcase their work during a statewide virtual event on March 10, 2027.

We're proud to share that Kaitlin Brown, Senior Director of Programs and Services, and Mallory Schultz, Prevention Manager, are representing the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling today at the DMHAS Innovations in Maternal Behavioral Healthcare: Mitigating Risk & Optimizing Wellness conference.

The conference brings together behavioral health clinicians, medical providers, community based practitioners, and individuals with lived experience to explore innovative approaches to maternal behavioral healthcare across clinical, cultural, and holistic domains. Sessions focus on topics including maternal mental health, trauma responsive care, substance use, lived experience, and whole person wellness.

Opportunities like this help our team stay informed on emerging best practices, strengthen partnerships across the behavioral health community, and bring new ideas back to support individuals, families, and communities throughout Connecticut.

Time is running out! Applications for the Multicultural Problem Gambling Prevention Program close on Monday, August 3.

The Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling is seeking nonprofit organizations that serve Connecticut's diverse cultural communities to help build stronger, healthier communities through education, collaboration, and prevention.

Up to five organizations will receive funding to develop culturally responsive initiatives, strengthen community partnerships, and expand access to education and resources for individuals and families.

Together, we can increase awareness, reduce harm, and support the well-being of communities across Connecticut.
