For over 75 years the Westwood Lions Club has been the local representation of the Lions Clubs International (“LCI.”) LCI was formed in 1917 and over the last 100 years has become the world’s largest service club organization. (For more information on the LCI please go to http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/who-we...) In 1925 Helen Keller addressed the Lions Clubs International Convention, and challenged
Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since then, LCI has worked tirelessly to aid the blind and visually impaired and to combat eye disease. In addition, each local club fundraises and contributes to many good causes. Here in Westwood these causes have included establishing and maintaining the Tot Lot, purchasing equipment for our police and fire, providing scholarships for the Westwood High School, and helping individuals and families in need. While organizing and running events to fund these causes, we have a good time and enjoy each other’s company. This Lions year, 2017/2018, we have decided to contribute most of our fundraising activities to a campaign to renovate the Tot Lot and replace much of its equipment that was removed. We are blessed to have great community support already from fellow community organizations such as the Westwood Rotary Club and the Moms Club of Westwood.
