Our community has lost one of the pillars of our church. Alan Pitman has gone home to the Lord. We were so privileged to have his talent, good nature, mentoring example, and humor.As the hymn says,

He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

How long will it take before the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Newark ends the secrecy of the Bishops and the Chancery and dismantle the system that perpetuates the cycle of abuse?
Until the faithful in the pews say “enough is enough” and defund the hierarchy that protects the groomers and abusers by moving them from parish to parish, we will continue to live this nightmare.
Worse, as Christians, we will be ignoring the least among us, in favor of those who hold the power and money.
Instead, we need to support the priests who have so faithfully served our parish in the past, as well as the needs of those who have suffered in our community.
