Beginning in August, individuals who intentionally release balloons outdoors in Louisiana may face penalities under our anti-littering statutes.

Released balloons often end up as litter in our waterways, roads and communities, harming wildlife and creating unnecessary pollution. To celebrate milestones or honor loved ones, consider alternatives like blowing bubbles or flying colorful kites.

Thank you to Senator Patrick Connick who donated a Liberty Tree to be planted in Westwego to honor the 250th celebration of America. This live oak is planted in accordance with HR 351. The Westwego Beautification Commission is proud to participate in this program and appreciate the Westwego city employees who helped plant it.

Thank you, Sophia Fernandez, for your work with us! One of Sophia’s projects as an LSU intern for the Westwego Beautification Commission, is to refurbish the garden in front of the theater on Sala Avenue. Sophia is an Art major with a minor in Horticulture. She has also helped us with our newly planted wildflower garden.
