Adair County Imagination Library

We found out the Imagination Library existed when our daughter was a toddler. She inherited a bookcase full of books collected from various family members over the years so we weren't lacking for books in our home. We know that is not the case for many children in our area.

The conversation moved from "That's so neat!" to "What if we could get a program here and start filling homes with books?" and after long meetings to find a 501c3 sponsor, the first books were mailed in May 2022.

Our program is unique. We are not a business or a non-profit organization. Our registrations are approved on our home computer in our kitchen in the evenings and on weekends. All of our donations we receive go back into only books and all of our branded supplies were donated. Funding comes from both the state and our local businesses.

Through these generous people, we have mailed 54,894 books in our county. That is amazing and to think it started with "What if?".

What if we give like Dolly?
What if we lead with kindness?
What if we invest in our children?

Launched in 1995, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is the world's leading early childhood book-gifting program and the flagship initiative of The Dollywood Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Since its founding, the program has gifted more than 300 million free books to children across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

Each month, the Imagination Library mails over 3 million high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to children's homes. Every enrolled child receives one book per month from birth to age five, at no cost to families.

Inspired by her father's inability to read and write, Dolly created the Imagination Library in her hometown of Sevier County, Tennessee, to inspire a love of reading from the earliest years. In true Dolly fashion, she soon shared that dream with other communities that wanted to give their children the same opportunity to Dream More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More.

The Imagination Library's impact has been widely studied, with research consistently showing positive effects on early childhood development, kindergarten readiness, and family reading habits.

Give Like Dolly Day is coming September 25th!

Dolly Parton believed in giving back and helping children dream bigger—and this year, we’re celebrating that spirit right here in Adair County.

On September 25, we’re inviting our community to join us in giving back to our children. We will be gathering business donations during the day to continue our local program and Casey will be set up at Station Soft Serve from 4 pm-9pm with welcome books for anyone that wants to start the program.

Hodge Podge in Westville will also be handing out free Imagination Library books that were received through donations. If your library is missing a few books, go check them out! *Limited supply
