The Garden State has taken some important steps to confront its legacy of chemical pollution, often moving ahead of federal standards to protect public health. But the nature and extensive use of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” presents a major challenge.

Now, the issue is being compounded by shifting federal policy. The Trump administration is pulling back regulations on “forever chemicals” in our water and food.

The towns of Mantua, Pitman and Woodbury Heights, all in Gloucester County, passed resolutions in 2022 and 2023 opposing the rail line.

Five towns have formally opposed the Glassboro-Camden Light Rail through resolutions or referendums, but NJ Transit is acquiring the first of 216 properties needed.
