It’s October, and again, 6 of our students from Lenana Girls’ High School in Kitale, Kenya, have been selected for the Global Girl Leading Summit in London, England! They begin their journey today.

Their first time outside of Kenya.
Their first time on a plane.
Their first time presenting their work to an international audience.

We’ve been rehearsing over Zoom, and I can tell you, they’re ready! Thank you for your time and feedback, Connie Mann - Author!! We have complete confidence that they will make themselves, their school, and their country proud!

Thank you to all our donors for making these invaluable experiences possible!!!🙏

Another feel good post from Lift the Lid!

We are happy to share the results of our 13th Annual Writing Competition at Mogonjet Secondary School in Kericho, Kenya. The awards we give are educational scholarships that help these hardworking students remain in school.

This year, Teri Pilotti, a Lift the Lid supporter and volunteer, thoroughly read and commented on each student’s essay. Teri is from Pennsylvania, in the United States, and has taken a heartfelt interest in Lift the Lid’s work. Thank you, Teri!!

Our goal is to help our students improve their skills and encourage them to keep expressing their thoughts in writing. Enjoy these special photos of our PROUD scholarship winners.

At Lift the Lid, we love taking any opportunity to learn or create something new TOGETHER. We discussed how art evokes emotions when observed, and how creating art can help us to relax our minds. lift-the-lid.org

The National English Honor Society at Staples High School in Connecticut asked if their organization could work with Lift the Lid’s students on a cultural exchange project. Fantastic! We decided to start an online international book club. Our meetings have been thought-provoking, sincere, and a great opportunity for everyone to share their opinions and strengthen their speaking voices.

Here are highlights from a few of our discussions on “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes, and “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost...

This news will make you happy, I promise!! I’ve known Stephano since he was in primary school and on the verge of being lost to the streets of Metro Manila. Now he is setting an example for the rest of our kids at the School in a Cart. Check out his story and some photos here! In two of the photos, he is serving food to others in need. www.lift-the-lid.org

Another great part of springtime is Lift the Lid’s annual writing competitions! Our three sponsored schools in Kenya, and Happy Family Children’s Village at The Small Things in Tanzania participate (over 500 students!) — and every year the students improve in their writing and then enjoy a fun celebration when they receive their feedback.
