🌸✨Growing Together in Westport 🌸✨

At the Westport Garden Club, we believe that the joy of gardening is something meant to be shared. Our commitment to civic beautification goes beyond our public parks—it’s about nurturing the spirit of community gardening in every corner of town.

We are so inspired by the seniors at The Residence at Westport, who carry on the beautiful tradition of gardening with such passion! Whether they are preparing raised garden planters or tending to their favorite blooming beds, their dedication to staying connected with nature--and each other-- is a testament to the therapeutic and joyful power of gardening.

It’s our honor--and was so enjoyable-- for WGC members to support their projects and to celebrate togehter a community that values the healing, hands-on magic of the soil.

🇺🇸🌸Celebrating America 250 with Blooms! 🇺🇸🌸

In honor of America’s 250th birthday, the Westport Garden Club is thrilled to continue our beloved "Friday Flowers" tradition with a patriotic twist!

To celebrate Flag Day today, June 14th, our members--Nancy Diamond, Lynn Saphire, and Paula Argosh-- created and installed a special floral pop-up at Compo Beach.

It made rounds over the weekend at our fabulous park. Today, Flag Day, it will be showing its patriotic colors and greeting beachgoers at the Compo Beach entrance.

We hope these blooms brighten your day as we honor the spirit of our community and our country.

We are so proud to keep this legacy of civic beautification alive throughout this landmark year.

Here is where you can find our upcoming America 250 displays:

📍 NEW Location: Komansky Room, Westport Library, 20 Jesup Rd

Come to the June 11 public meeting--“The Dahlia Playbook” presented by Westport's own Paul Rossi, a UConn Certified Master Gardener. You need to look no further than his masterful dahlia gardens and displays, curated with love, to be inspired

Public Meeting Details:
🎤 Presentation: “The Dahlia Playbook
📅 Date: Thursday, June 11, 2026
⏰ Time: 1:00 p.m.
📍 NEW Location: Komansky Room, Westport Library, 20 Jesup Rd

Bonus: Bring a friend or prospective member along!

Paul’s dahlia journey goes back to his childhood, when he worked alongside his father and grandfather. His grandfather, Gennarino “John” Rossi, was an Italian immigrant who came to the US and became the caretaker of the massive Long Island estate belonging to Sir Ashley Sparks (who ran the famed Cunard shipping lines). Nearby, John kept his own vibrant garden, passing down a deep love for the soil through the generations.

Today, he’s passing that rich legacy down to our community. Whether he's teaching neighbors how to safely lift clumps in the fall or divide tubers for spring planting, Paul's hands-on workshops at the farm are always a local favorite.

A huge thank you to Paul for keeping Westport beautiful and full of color. 💚

Hoorah! What a day! The Westport Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale (May 9) was a huge success.

Eager gardeners from across town and the region lined up to storm the field at 9:30 to seek out choice homegrown perennials; by 1:30, the field was largely cleared. For some customers, it was their first visit, for others, the umpteenth time. One regular had a wheelbarrow full of plants as gifts to friends and family.

The sale takes a year of planning. Leading up to the event, our members dig and tend to their plants, create beautiful planters and bouquets, and cook delicacies. On the day of the sale, members serve as expert advisors in the field, sell herbs, tomatoes, Mother's Day gifts, and much more. Sustainable Westport, EarthPlace, and Westport Book Sales expanded the community spirit of the event.

Thank you to the plant sale co-chairs, Anne Lester and Darcy Sledge, for their leadership and their committee for their great contributions. AND Thanks to the many volunteer members who contributed time and energy on Friday and Saturday.

What a beautiful snowy weekend here in Westport! Now that the snow showers have passed, go outside today to feed the birds!

Watching them whip around and look for seedlings on the snow cover will bring you joy and inspiration, just as it did local artist Margaret Schulz Ware, whose etching "Winter Birds" (c 1950s-60s) is in the Westport Public Art Collections (ID Number 1136).

My Backyard looks like this when the squirrels are not around!
