Attendees at the UFCW New England Council meeting were able to tour the Ben & Jerry's manufacturing facility in Waterbury VT. They were also treated to a visit from the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Truck. Local 371 represents 350 members at two Ben & Jerry's facilities in VT. Together with our members at Hood Ice Cream, there are plenty of options for union made frozen treats!

Earlier this month, President Brian Truini addressed the delegates at the New England Council Meeting, updated our union family throughout the region on the contract battles and organizing activities in Local 371. Brian shared that we are currently in negotiations for several successor agreements, including Foxwoods Casino, Chartwells, and Hood Ice Cream. We are also bargaining a first contract at Petsmart in East Hartford.

On July 28, retired UFCW Local 371 Business Agent Vincent Murolo assisted senior Local 371 Business Agent Jeff Horvath in a grievance meeting at Stop & Shop store 2616 in Litchfield CT. Earlier that day, he also lended his expertise at Stop & Shop store 618 in Waterbury. Both members were returned to work with one of them receiving two hours of backpay.

Local 371 joined many others in the REI Union’s historic 10-day boycott of the REI Co-op’s Anniversary Sale, turning away thousands of shoppers across the country, with 70,000 customers pledging not to shop during the sale. Workers at the company’s 11 unionized stores received an overwhelming show of support from REI Co-op members, who withheld their business to demand that REI end their bad faith bargaining and negotiate a fair contract.
