Congratulations to Theresa Marshall, who retired from Stop & Shop in Canaan CT last week. Theresa was a fixture at her store, and was loved by her coworkers and customers alike. We are definitely going to miss her positive attitude at work but can't wait to hear about all of her next adventures. Theresa is pictured here with her steward Roberta Greene, Local 371 Secretary Treasurer Keri Hoehne, and her husband.

Today, April 23rd 2026, marks 39 years since the tragedy of the L'Ambiance Plaza collapse in which 28 workers were crushed to death, and 22 were injured due to faulty lift slab construction. Local 371 President Brian Truini was joined by organizers Jake Serafini and Jose Anaya and former President Tom Wilkinson who lead all attendees in the prayer of the worker.
May we always remember this tragedy as a stark reminder that safe working conditions aren't up for debate. We honor those we've lost, and work each and every day to avoid such a terrible event from ever occurring again.

Local 371 thanks everyone who came out on a cold, rainy Sunday to support the workers of PetSmart East Hartford, including Senator Matthew Lesser.

Just over a year ago, these workers voted to join Local 371, but PetSmart has challenged the results to the NLRB in Washington, where the case remains pending. In the meantime, the company has kept workers stagnant by blocking raises, schedule changes, and promotions, all while forcing them to work in dangerous working conditions.

With support from the Connecticut AFL-CIO, Local 371 brought together union members, neighbors, and their pets to show encouragement and solidarity during this prolonged process. Attendees were also urged to leave a Google review calling on PetSmart to recognize the employees’ union. Congratulations to Local 371 member Jeannine Morissette, who retired yesterday after decades of service to Stop & Shop and our union. Jennine is pictured with Local 371 shop steward Debbie Dumaime, member Don Palmberg and union representative Brian Simmons. She was celebrated by all of her union family at Store #686 Unionville. Though she will miss her meat dept family after 43 years she's excited for retirement and looking forward to spending more time traveling and with her grandchildren.

Meatpacking is already one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Now the USDA wants to let plants run their lines even faster.

Faster Lines = Increased chance of injuries, fewer jobs, and greater risk – for workers and everyone who eats the food they process.

This rule isn't about efficiency. It's about profit over people.

TAKE ACTION: Tell USDA to put our safety first.
