Day 2 of our Careers in Sports Summer Institute brought us to St. Thomas University where we spent the day with STU Sports Administration. Our students learned about the admissions process, toured the campus and then engaged in a mock press conference where they covered several of the school’s student athletes. We asked questions, operated cameras and developed social media posts inspired by the press conference.

Additionally, Vira Edwards, Manager of Football Communications for the Miami Dolphins, shared her personal journey through the industry, answered questions and provided invaluable advice and perspective.

We kicked of our 2026 Careers in Sports Summer Institute today with Miami Hurricanes Athletics. 17 students representing eight different high schools across three counties participated as we toured the Hurricanes Athletics Offices. Our students learned about fields including video production, Communications, Academic Support, Athletic Training, and Facilities and Operations. We are grateful for Shirelle Wright Jackson and her colleagues for this experience.

Special thanks must also go out to The Jim Moran Foundation and The Power of Sports for helping to make this year’s program a reality.

We can’t wait until tomorrow!

Congrats to Bojan Jones for being named the Student of the Year in the Jason Taylor Reading Room by the faculty and staff at .

Pictured here with Reading Room teacher, Ms. Pierre, “BJ” has been a three year participant in our program. He was a school winner for the Panther Poetry Project contest last school year, was a camp scholarship recipient for his efforts in the after school coding series, and consistently a pleasure for our Reading Room staff and students to be around.
