Florida Society of Goldsmiths is pleased to announce a strategic transition that will integrate FSG’s programs and community into Metalwerx in 2026.

FSG Board of Directors determined that the organization required expanded administrative infrastructure and technical capacity to continue to offer the same level of membership care, educational excellence, and community, which Metalwerx is well positioned to provide.

We believe in our members and this membership program and we don’t want anyone to lose this incredible community.

While it is sad to see our beloved FSG come to the end of its life cycle, we believe that our
members and the metalsmithing community will be much better served by integrating with Metalwerx. We look forward to a very successful relationship with Metalwerx which should bring enhanced programming and other benefits to our members.

Key programs, including FSG’s well-known educational offerings and retreat experiences, will continue under Metalwerx’s stewardship as the transition unfolds. To learn more about this integration visit FSGmetalsmiths.org and Metalwerx.com

FSG Membership Spotlight
Deianis Ortiz-Aponte

Known as DOA, the creator and designer behind DOA Jewelry Co. Her passion for art and color began in childhood, helping my mother decorate cakes for her business.
This love for combining textures, colors, and shapes sparked her interest in jewelry at 18. For her Senior Prom, she decided to design and craft her own jewelry. She visited bead stores, picked out beautiful Swarovski crystals, and created her first two pairs of earrings. That summer marked the beginning of her jewelry journey.
With over 15 years of experience in designing and creating handmade jewelry, Deianis works with a variety of beads, gemstones, findings, and metals honing her skills in metalsmithing and silversmithing to create even more unique pieces.
Deianis strives to offer elegant, colorful, and high-quality jewelry. She pours her heart into every design, ensuring that each piece is meticulously crafted for a flawless finish. Our collection features sterling silver and 18K gold vermeil. She also offers brass pieces for those seeking more budget-friendly options.
“I hope you love these pieces as much as I do! Thank you for being here, and remember to express yourself freely. Always keep in mind: It’s not about what you wear; it’s about how you feel in your own skin and how you present that to the world. You are perfect just as you are!”

FSG Member Spotlight - Cindy Gentry
Cindy Gentry Designs

"My work brings balance to my life and happiness to my soul. I hope the same will happen to all the women and men that delight in my pieces."

Cindy was introduced to lampwork glass in 2006 and was fascinated with it. She was hooked! It took several years for her to gather all the proper equipment but once she had, she enjoyed every minute, able to sit in her garage studio and make glass beads. Primarily self-taught, going through Corina Tettinger's book, she felt comfortable and started taking weekend classes with well-known lampwork artists. Instructors include: Kristina Loga, Heather Trimlett, and Pati Walton.
It was learning to make glass cabochons that took her creations in a whole new direction in jewelry making. Previously she had been stringing her beads, but now she needed to learn how to set cabochons to create the type of piece she wanted. She dove into silversmithing, primarily self-taught with the help of YouTube!
Learning to use etching gave texture to her metalwork. She discovered how to use her own mandala patterns is what she believes gives a unique voice to her pieces.

Cindy shows her work at fine craft shows and galleries. Find her work on her website: https://cindygentrydesigns.com/
