Indeed. We traveled to the Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell to visit with some incredible local artists and see their workshops. As we walked past this piece on a wall, welcoming people to take pictures, it was as though they knew we were coming! These three women embody competence, fortitude, determination, and grace as they continue to drive forward progress amidst adversity throughout the country of Haiti. From left to right: Nurse educators Mme. Judith Dely, Mlle. Stelophchard Laude, and Mme. Nathalie Oda.

Mme Judith Dely prepares to participate as the patient in a clinical scenario designed by one of her colleagues for the simulation lab. She has on a wearable tracheostomy simulator, designed with simulated lungs so that tracheostomy care can be practiced safely, effectively, and authentically with students. This is one of many advanced pieces of technology that were used during the rigorous two-weeks at Regis to develop the curriculum that will go with them to their universities and hospitals. Mme Dely is a professor of nursing and clinical preceptor (known as Monitrice in French and Creole) in the southwestern city of Jérémie, Grand Anse.

Mme Natacha Fresnel and President Toni Hays have known each other for many years. Mme Fresnel was in one of the three cohorts of professionals who traveled to Regis for courses to complete a Master's Degree in Nursing through the University of Haiti. This partnership between Regis College and the Haitian Ministry of Health laid the foundation for almost fifteen years of work together to advance clinical nursing education and practice in Haiti. Mme Fresnel is the Head of Basic and Continuing Education for Nursing at the Ministry of Health and Population. She took part in the two-week Simulation Lab training on campus this July.

It was an intensive two weeks working in the simulation lab, learning methodology and creating original scenarios to bring back to students and novice nurses all over Haiti. But the experience was also one of joy and appreciation for one another. We enjoyed learning and being together. We miss you all so much! Vous nous manquez!

Thanks for the great partnership, Partners In Health!

Thank you to our Haitian partners for your sustained enthusiasm and engagement with the simulation learning and our terrific faculty, Janis Tuxbury and Patricia M. McCauley.

Thank you President Toni Hays for always being the number 1 supporter for Regis In Haiti and nurses.

Our Haitian nurse educators discussed the importance of simulation safety and gained valuable education regarding the Foundation For Healthcare Simulation Safety. The Foundation is dedicated to protecting patients, learners, and staff from harm related to simulation exercises. The Foundation co-directors are Ann Mullen MSN, CHSE, a Regis College Alumna, Dan Raemer PhD and Alex Hannenberg, MD. Ann is the Program Manager for the Center for Medical Simulation. Pictured here the group holds the simulation safety labels that they will bring back to Haiti to put on their simulation equipment.
