The Samoset Council, Scouting America, joins our community in mourning the passing of John Noel on September 30. A steadfast supporter of Scouting for countless decades, John leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of generosity, leadership, and service.
John believed in investing in young people and creating opportunities for them to grow and succeed. Alongside his wife, Patty, he dedicated his life to strengthening communities through philanthropy, education, and service.
At Crystal Lake Scout Reservation, the Grand Council Ring now holds even greater significance. For generations, Scouts have gathered there to share stories, celebrate achievements, and experience the traditions of Scouting. It will forever serve as a reminder of John's generosity and commitment to shaping future generations.
John understood that the greatest investment we can make is in young people. His support helped ensure that countless Scouts could experience the character, leadership, and lifelong lessons that Scouting provides.
The Samoset Council extends its heartfelt condolences to Patty and the Noel family. We are deeply grateful for John's decades of friendship and unwavering support.
John's legacy will live on in the lives of Scouts and in the glow of campfires at Crystal Lake Scout Reservation for generations to come.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, at Holy Spirit Church. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2026, at the Noel residence, 3045 True North Trail, Plover, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
