וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים לֹא־טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹ עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃

YAH יהוה ELohim said:

“It IS NOT GOOD for the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] to be alone; I will make a fitting counterpart [ HELP עֵזֶר EZER ] for him.”

וַיִּצֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים מִן־הָאֲדָמָה כׇּל־חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וְאֵת כׇּל־עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיָּבֵא אֶל־הָאָדָם לִרְאוֹת מַה־יִּקְרָא־לוֹ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָא־לוֹ הָאָדָם נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה הוּא שְׁמוֹ׃

And YAH יהוה ELohim formed out of the earth all the wild beasts and all the birds of the sky, and brought them to the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] to see what he would call them; and whatever the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] called each living creature, that would be its name.

וַיִּקְרָא הָאָדָם שֵׁמוֹת לְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָה וּלְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּלְכֹל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וּלְאָדָם לֹא־מָצָא עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃

And the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beasts; but no fitting counterpart [ HELP עֵזֶר EZER ] for a human [ Adam אָדָם ] being was found.

וַיַּפֵּל 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים תַּרְדֵּמָה עַל־הָאָדָם וַיִּישָׁן וַיִּקַּח אַחַת מִצַּלְעֹתָיו וַיִּסְגֹּר בָּשָׂר תַּחְתֶּנָּה׃

So YAH יהוה ELohim cast a deep sleep upon the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ]; and, while he slept, [ YAH יה ] took one of his sides and closed up the flesh at that site.

וַיִּבֶן 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים אֶת־הַצֵּלָע אֲשֶׁר־לָקַח מִן־הָאָדָם לְאִשָּׁה וַיְבִאֶהָ אֶל־הָאָדָם׃

And YAH יהוה ELohim fashioned the side that had been taken from the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ]into a woman, bringing her to the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ].

וַיֹּאמֶר הָאָדָם זֹאת הַפַּעַם עֶצֶם מֵעֲצָמַי וּבָשָׂר מִבְּשָׂרִי לְזֹאת יִקָּרֵא אִשָּׁה כִּי מֵאִישׁ לֻקְחָה־זֹּאת׃

Then the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] said:

“This one at last
Is bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh.
This one shall be called Woman [ ISHSHAH אִשָּׁה ],
For from a Man [ ISH אִישׁ ] was she taken.”

עַל־כֵּן יַעֲזׇב־אִישׁ אֶת־אָבִיו וְאֶת־אִמּוֹ וְדָבַק בְּאִשְׁתּוֹ וְהָיוּ לְבָשָׂר אֶחָד׃

Hence a man [ ISH אִישׁ ] leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife [ ISHTO אִשְׁתּוֹ ], so that they become ONE [ EHAD אֶחָד ] flesh.

For they will turn your children away from Me to worship other gods, and YAH יהוה’s anger will blaze forth against you, promptly wiping you out.

כִּי־אִם־כֹּה תַעֲשׂוּ לָהֶם מִזְבְּחֹתֵיהֶם תִּתֹּצוּ וּמַצֵּבֹתָם תְּשַׁבֵּרוּ וַאֲשֵׁירֵהֶם תְּגַדֵּעוּן וּפְסִילֵיהֶם תִּשְׂרְפוּן בָּאֵשׁ׃

Instead, this is what you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, smash their pillars, cut down their sacred posts, and consign their images to the fire.

הִשָּׁמֶר לְךָ פֶּן־תִּכְרֹת בְּרִית לְיוֹשֵׁב הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה בָּא עָלֶיהָ פֶּן־יִהְיֶה לְמוֹקֵשׁ בְּקִרְבֶּךָ׃

BEWARE of making a COVENANT with the inhabitants of the land against which you are advancing, lest they be a snare in your midst.

כִּי אֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתָם תִּתֹּצוּן וְאֶת־מַצֵּבֹתָם תְּשַׁבֵּרוּן וְאֶת־אֲשֵׁרָיו תִּכְרֹתוּן׃

No, you must tear down their altars, smash their pillars, and cut down their sacred posts;

כִּי לֹא תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לְאֵל אַחֵר כִּי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 קַנָּא שְׁמוֹ אֵל קַנָּא הוּא׃

for you must not worship any other god, because YAH יהוה, whose Name is Impassioned, is an impassioned ELohim.

פֶּן־תִּכְרֹת בְּרִית לְיוֹשֵׁב הָאָרֶץ וְזָנוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וְזָבְחוּ לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם וְקָרָא לְךָ וְאָכַלְתָּ מִזִּבְחוֹ׃

You must not make a COVENANT with the inhabitants of the land, for they will lust after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and invite you, and you will eat of their sacrifices.

וְלָקַחְתָּ מִבְּנֹתָיו לְבָנֶיךָ וְזָנוּ בְנֹתָיו אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶן וְהִזְנוּ אֶת־בָּנֶיךָ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶן׃

And when you take [ wives into your households ] from among their daughters for your sons, their daughters will lust after their gods and will cause your sons to lust after their gods.

אֱלֹהֵי מַסֵּכָה לֹא תַעֲשֶׂה־לָּךְ׃

You shall not make molten gods for yourselves.

✨ THE SIN OF SHALOMON ✨

וְהַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אָהַב נָשִׁים נׇכְרִיּוֹת רַבּוֹת וְאֶת־בַּת־פַּרְעֹה מוֹאֲבִיּוֹת עַמֳּנִיּוֹת אֲדֹמִיֹּת צֵדְנִיֹּת חִתִּיֹּת׃

King Shalomon loved many foreign women in addition to Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Phoenician, and Hittite women,

מִן־הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר אָמַר־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֶל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־תָבֹאוּ בָהֶם וְהֵם לֹא־יָבֹאוּ בָכֶם אָכֵן יַטּוּ אֶת־לְבַבְכֶם אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם בָּהֶם דָּבַק שְׁלֹמֹה לְאַהֲבָה׃

from the nations of which YAH יהוה had said to the Children of YISRAEL בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל:

“None of you shall join them and none of them shall join you, lest they turn your heart away to follow their gods.”

Such Shalomon clung to and loved.

וַיְהִי־לוֹ נָשִׁים שָׂרוֹת שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וּפִלַגְשִׁים שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וַיַּטּוּ נָשָׁיו אֶת־לִבּוֹ׃

He had seven hundred [ 700 ] royal wives and three hundred [ 300 ] concubines; and his wives turned his heart away.

וַיְהִי לְעֵת זִקְנַת שְׁלֹמֹה נָשָׁיו הִטּוּ אֶת־לְבָבוֹ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְלֹא־הָיָה לְבָבוֹ שָׁלֵם עִם־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהָיו כִּלְבַב דָּוִיד אָבִיו׃

In his old age, his wives turned away Shalomon’s heart after other gods, and he was not as wholeheartedly devoted to YAH יהוה his ELohim as his father David had been.

וַיֵּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אַחֲרֵי עַשְׁתֹּרֶת אֱלֹהֵי צִדֹנִים וְאַחֲרֵי מִלְכֹּם שִׁקֻּץ עַמֹּנִים׃

Shalomon followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Phoenicians, and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

וַיַּעַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹה הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וְלֹא מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 כְּדָוִד אָבִיו׃ {ס}

Solomon did what was displeasing to YAH יהוה and did not remain loyal to YAH יהוה like his father David.

אָז יִבְנֶה שְׁלֹמֹה בָּמָה לִכְמוֹשׁ שִׁקֻּץ מוֹאָב בָּהָר אֲשֶׁר עַל־פְּנֵי יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וּלְמֹלֶךְ שִׁקֻּץ בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן׃

At that time, Shalomon built a shrine for Chemosh the abomination of Moab on the hill near Yerusalem, and one for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites.

וְכֵן עָשָׂה לְכׇל־נָשָׁיו הַנׇּכְרִיּוֹת מַקְטִירוֹת וּמְזַבְּחוֹת לֵאלֹהֵיהֶן׃

And he did the same for all his foreign wives who offered and sacrificed to their gods.

וַיִּתְאַנַּף 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 בִּשְׁלֹמֹה כִּי־נָטָה לְבָבוֹ מֵעִם 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַנִּרְאָה אֵלָיו פַּעֲמָיִם׃

YAH יהוה was angry with Shalomon, because his heart turned away from YAH יהוה, the ELohim of YISRAEL, who had appeared to him twice [ 2 ]

וְצִוָּה אֵלָיו עַל־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה לְבִלְתִּי־לֶכֶת אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְלֹא שָׁמַר אֵת אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה יְהֹוָה׃ {פ}

and had commanded him about this matter, not to follow other gods; he did not obey what YAH יהוה had commanded.

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 לִשְׁלֹמֹה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה־זֹּאת עִמָּךְ וְלֹא שָׁמַרְתָּ בְּרִיתִי וְחֻקֹּתַי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי עָלֶיךָ קָרֹעַ אֶקְרַע אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה מֵעָלֶיךָ וּנְתַתִּיהָ לְעַבְדֶּךָ׃

And YAH יהוה said to Solomon:

“Because you are guilty of this—you have not kept My COVENANT and the laws which I enjoined upon you—I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one [ 1 ] of your servants.

אַךְ־בְּיָמֶיךָ לֹא אֶעֱשֶׂנָּה לְמַעַן דָּוִד אָבִיךָ מִיַּד בִּנְךָ אֶקְרָעֶנָּה׃

But, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it in your lifetime; I will tear it away from your son.

רַק אֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּמְלָכָה לֹא אֶקְרָע שֵׁבֶט אֶחָד אֶתֵּן לִבְנֶךָ לְמַעַן דָּוִד עַבְדִּי וּלְמַעַן יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם אֲשֶׁר בָּחָרְתִּי׃ {ס}

However, I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give your son ONE [ 1 ] TRIBE, for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Yerusalem which I have chosen.”

This Yeroboam יָרׇבְעָם was an able man, and when Shalomon saw that the young man was a capable worker, he appointed him over all the forced labor of THE HOUSE OF YOSEF בֵּית יוֹסֵף.

וַיְהִי בָּעֵת הַהִיא וְיָרׇבְעָם יָצָא מִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וַיִּמְצָא אֹתוֹ אֲחִיָּה הַשִּׁילֹנִי הַנָּבִיא בַּדֶּרֶךְ וְהוּא מִתְכַּסֶּה בְּשַׂלְמָה חֲדָשָׁה וּשְׁנֵיהֶם לְבַדָּם בַּשָּׂדֶה׃

During that time Yeroboam went out of Yerusalem and the prophet AhiYAH אֲחִיָּה of Shiloh met him on the way. He had put on a new robe; and when the two [ 2 ] were alone in the open country,

וַיִּתְפֹּשׂ אֲחִיָּה בַּשַּׂלְמָה הַחֲדָשָׁה אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו וַיִּקְרָעֶהָ שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר קְרָעִים׃

AhiYAH אֲחִיָּה took hold of the new robe he was wearing and tore it into TWELVE [ 12 ] pieces.

וַיֹּאמֶר לְיָרׇבְעָם קַח־לְךָ עֲשָׂרָה קְרָעִים כִּי כֹה אָמַר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנְנִי קֹרֵעַ אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה מִיַּד שְׁלֹמֹה וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ אֵת עֲשָׂרָה הַשְּׁבָטִים׃

“Take TEN [ 10 ] pieces,” he said to Yeroboam. “For thus said YAH יהוה, the ELohim of YISRAEL:

I am about to tear the kingdom out of Shalomon’s hands, and I will give you TEN [ 10 ] TRIBES [ THE HOUSE OF YISRAEL ].

וְהַשֵּׁבֶט הָאֶחָד יִהְיֶה־לּוֹ לְמַעַן עַבְדִּי דָוִד וּלְמַעַן יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר בָּחַרְתִּי בָהּ מִכֹּל שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

But ONE [ 1 ] TRIBE [ THE HOUSE OF JUDAH ] shall remain his—for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Yerusalem, the city that I have chosen out of all THE TRIBES OF YISRAEL.

יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עֲזָבוּנִי וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְעַשְׁתֹּרֶת אֱלֹהֵי צִדֹנִין לִכְמוֹשׁ אֱלֹהֵי מוֹאָב וּלְמִלְכֹּם אֱלֹהֵי בְנֵי־עַמּוֹן וְלֹא־הָלְכוּ בִדְרָכַי לַעֲשׂוֹת הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינַי וְחֻקֹּתַי וּמִשְׁפָּטַי כְּדָוִד אָבִיו׃

For they have forsaken Me; they have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Phoenicians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites; they have not walked in My ways, or done what is pleasing to Me, or [ kept ] My laws and rules, as his father David did.

וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶם לָהֶם לְנָשִׁים וְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶם נָתְנוּ לִבְנֵיהֶם וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֶת־אֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃ {פ}

they took their daughters to wife and gave their own daughters to their sons, and they worshiped their gods.

וַיַּעֲשׂוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּ אֶת־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֶת־הַבְּעָלִים וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרוֹת׃

The Children of YISRAEL בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל did what was offensive to YAH יהוה; they ignored YAH יהוה their ELohim and worshiped the Baalim and the Asheroth.

וַיִּחַר־אַף 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם מֶלֶךְ אֲרַם נַהֲרָיִם וַיַּעַבְדוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם שְׁמֹנֶה שָׁנִים׃

YAH יהוה became incensed at IsraEL and surrendered them to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim; and the Children of YISRAEL בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל were subject to Cushan-rishathaim for EIGHT [ 8 ] years.

וַתֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה שָׁבָה יְבִמְתֵּךְ אֶל־עַמָּהּ וְאֶל־אֱלֹהֶיהָ שׁוּבִי אַחֲרֵי יְבִמְתֵּךְ׃

So she said:

“See, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and her gods. Go follow your sister-in-law.”

וַתֹּאמֶר רוּת אַל־תִּפְגְּעִי־בִי לְעׇזְבֵךְ לָשׁוּב מֵאַחֲרָיִךְ כִּי אֶל־אֲשֶׁר תֵּלְכִי אֵלֵךְ וּבַאֲשֶׁר תָּלִינִי אָלִין עַמֵּךְ עַמִּי וֵאלֹהַיִךְ אֱלֹהָי׃

But Ruth רוּת [ The Moabite הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּה ] replied:

“Do not urge me to leave you, to turn back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your ELohim my ELohim

בַּאֲשֶׁר תָּמוּתִי אָמוּת וְשָׁם אֶקָּבֵר כֹּה יַעֲשֶׂה 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 לִי וְכֹה יוֹסִיף כִּי הַמָּוֶת יַפְרִיד בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵךְ׃

Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus and more may YAH יהוה do to me if anything but death parts me from you.”

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים לֹא־טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹ עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃

YAH יהוה ELohim said:

“It IS NOT GOOD for the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] to be alone; I will make a fitting counterpart [ HELP עֵזֶר EZER ] for him.”

וַיִּצֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים מִן־הָאֲדָמָה כׇּל־חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וְאֵת כׇּל־עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיָּבֵא אֶל־הָאָדָם לִרְאוֹת מַה־יִּקְרָא־לוֹ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָא־לוֹ הָאָדָם נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה הוּא שְׁמוֹ׃

And YAH יהוה ELohim formed out of the earth all the wild beasts and all the birds of the sky, and brought them to the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] to see what he would call them; and whatever the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] called each living creature, that would be its name.

וַיִּקְרָא הָאָדָם שֵׁמוֹת לְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָה וּלְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּלְכֹל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וּלְאָדָם לֹא־מָצָא עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃

And the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beasts; but no fitting counterpart [ HELP עֵזֶר EZER ] for a human [ Adam אָדָם ] being was found.

וַיַּפֵּל 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים תַּרְדֵּמָה עַל־הָאָדָם וַיִּישָׁן וַיִּקַּח אַחַת מִצַּלְעֹתָיו וַיִּסְגֹּר בָּשָׂר תַּחְתֶּנָּה׃

So YAH יהוה ELohim cast a deep sleep upon the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ]; and, while he slept, [ YAH יה ] took one of his sides and closed up the flesh at that site.

וַיִּבֶן 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהִים אֶת־הַצֵּלָע אֲשֶׁר־לָקַח מִן־הָאָדָם לְאִשָּׁה וַיְבִאֶהָ אֶל־הָאָדָם׃

And YAH יהוה ELohim fashioned the side that had been taken from the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ]into a woman, bringing her to the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ].

וַיֹּאמֶר הָאָדָם זֹאת הַפַּעַם עֶצֶם מֵעֲצָמַי וּבָשָׂר מִבְּשָׂרִי לְזֹאת יִקָּרֵא אִשָּׁה כִּי מֵאִישׁ לֻקְחָה־זֹּאת׃

Then the Human [ HaAdam הָאָדָם ] said:

“This one at last
Is bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh.
This one shall be called Woman [ ISHSHAH אִשָּׁה ],
For from a Man [ ISH אִישׁ ] was she taken.”

עַל־כֵּן יַעֲזׇב־אִישׁ אֶת־אָבִיו וְאֶת־אִמּוֹ וְדָבַק בְּאִשְׁתּוֹ וְהָיוּ לְבָשָׂר אֶחָד׃

Hence a man [ ISH אִישׁ ] leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife [ ISHTO אִשְׁתּוֹ ], so that they become ONE [ EHAD אֶחָד ] flesh.

Instead, this is what you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, smash their pillars, cut down their sacred posts, and consign their images to the fire.

✨ BEWARE

פֶּן־תִּכְרֹת בְּרִית לְיוֹשֵׁב הָאָרֶץ וְזָנוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וְזָבְחוּ לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם וְקָרָא לְךָ וְאָכַלְתָּ מִזִּבְחוֹ׃

You must not make a COVENANT with the inhabitants of the land, for they will lust after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and invite you, and you will eat of their sacrifices.

וְלָקַחְתָּ מִבְּנֹתָיו לְבָנֶיךָ וְזָנוּ בְנֹתָיו אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶן וְהִזְנוּ אֶת־בָּנֶיךָ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶן׃

And when you take [ wives into your households ] from among their daughters for your sons, their daughters will lust after their gods and will cause your sons to lust after their gods.

אֱלֹהֵי מַסֵּכָה לֹא תַעֲשֶׂה־לָּךְ׃

✨ THE SIN OF SHALOMON ✨

וְהַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אָהַב נָשִׁים נׇכְרִיּוֹת רַבּוֹת וְאֶת־בַּת־פַּרְעֹה מוֹאֲבִיּוֹת עַמֳּנִיּוֹת אֲדֹמִיֹּת צֵדְנִיֹּת חִתִּיֹּת׃

King Shalomon loved many foreign women in addition to Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Phoenician, and Hittite women,

מִן־הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר אָמַר־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֶל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־תָבֹאוּ בָהֶם וְהֵם לֹא־יָבֹאוּ בָכֶם אָכֵן יַטּוּ אֶת־לְבַבְכֶם אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם בָּהֶם דָּבַק שְׁלֹמֹה לְאַהֲבָה׃

from the nations of which YAH יהוה had said to the Children of YISRAEL בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל:

“None of you shall join them and none of them shall join you, lest they turn your heart away to follow their gods.”

Such Shalomon clung to and loved.

וַיְהִי־לוֹ נָשִׁים שָׂרוֹת שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וּפִלַגְשִׁים שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וַיַּטּוּ נָשָׁיו אֶת־לִבּוֹ׃

He had seven hundred [ 700 ] royal wives and three hundred [ 300 ] concubines; and his wives turned his heart away.

וַיְהִי לְעֵת זִקְנַת שְׁלֹמֹה נָשָׁיו הִטּוּ אֶת־לְבָבוֹ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְלֹא־הָיָה לְבָבוֹ שָׁלֵם עִם־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהָיו כִּלְבַב דָּוִיד אָבִיו׃

In his old age, his wives turned away Shalomon’s heart after other gods, and he was not as wholeheartedly devoted to YAH יהוה his ELohim as his father David had been.

וַיֵּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אַחֲרֵי עַשְׁתֹּרֶת אֱלֹהֵי צִדֹנִים וְאַחֲרֵי מִלְכֹּם שִׁקֻּץ עַמֹּנִים׃

Shalomon followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Phoenicians, and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

וַיַּעַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹה הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וְלֹא מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 כְּדָוִד אָבִיו׃ {ס}

Solomon did what was displeasing to YAH יהוה and did not remain loyal to YAH יהוה like his father David.

אָז יִבְנֶה שְׁלֹמֹה בָּמָה לִכְמוֹשׁ שִׁקֻּץ מוֹאָב בָּהָר אֲשֶׁר עַל־פְּנֵי יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וּלְמֹלֶךְ שִׁקֻּץ בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן׃

At that time, Shalomon built a shrine for Chemosh the abomination of Moab on the hill near Yerusalem, and one for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites.

וְכֵן עָשָׂה לְכׇל־נָשָׁיו הַנׇּכְרִיּוֹת מַקְטִירוֹת וּמְזַבְּחוֹת לֵאלֹהֵיהֶן׃

And he did the same for all his foreign wives who offered and sacrificed to their gods.

וַיִּתְאַנַּף 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 בִּשְׁלֹמֹה כִּי־נָטָה לְבָבוֹ מֵעִם 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַנִּרְאָה אֵלָיו פַּעֲמָיִם׃

YAH יהוה was angry with Shalomon, because his heart turned away from YAH יהוה, the ELohim of YISRAEL, who had appeared to him twice [ 2 ]

וְצִוָּה אֵלָיו עַל־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה לְבִלְתִּי־לֶכֶת אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְלֹא שָׁמַר אֵת אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה יְהֹוָה׃ {פ}

and had commanded him about this matter, not to follow other gods; he did not obey what YAH יהוה had commanded.

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 לִשְׁלֹמֹה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה־זֹּאת עִמָּךְ וְלֹא שָׁמַרְתָּ בְּרִיתִי וְחֻקֹּתַי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי עָלֶיךָ קָרֹעַ אֶקְרַע אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה מֵעָלֶיךָ וּנְתַתִּיהָ לְעַבְדֶּךָ׃

And YAH יהוה said to Solomon:

“Because you are guilty of this—you have not kept My COVENANT and the laws which I enjoined upon you—I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one [ 1 ] of your servants.

אַךְ־בְּיָמֶיךָ לֹא אֶעֱשֶׂנָּה לְמַעַן דָּוִד אָבִיךָ מִיַּד בִּנְךָ אֶקְרָעֶנָּה׃

But, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it in your lifetime; I will tear it away from your son.

רַק אֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּמְלָכָה לֹא אֶקְרָע שֵׁבֶט אֶחָד אֶתֵּן לִבְנֶךָ לְמַעַן דָּוִד עַבְדִּי וּלְמַעַן יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם אֲשֶׁר בָּחָרְתִּי׃ {ס}

However, I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give your son ONE [ 1 ] TRIBE, for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Yerusalem which I have chosen.”

This Yeroboam יָרׇבְעָם was an able man, and when Shalomon saw that the young man was a capable worker, he appointed him over all the forced labor of THE HOUSE OF YOSEF בֵּית יוֹסֵף.

וַיְהִי בָּעֵת הַהִיא וְיָרׇבְעָם יָצָא מִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם וַיִּמְצָא אֹתוֹ אֲחִיָּה הַשִּׁילֹנִי הַנָּבִיא בַּדֶּרֶךְ וְהוּא מִתְכַּסֶּה בְּשַׂלְמָה חֲדָשָׁה וּשְׁנֵיהֶם לְבַדָּם בַּשָּׂדֶה׃

During that time Yeroboam went out of Yerusalem and the prophet AhiYAH אֲחִיָּה of Shiloh met him on the way. He had put on a new robe; and when the two [ 2 ] were alone in the open country,

וַיִּתְפֹּשׂ אֲחִיָּה בַּשַּׂלְמָה הַחֲדָשָׁה אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו וַיִּקְרָעֶהָ שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר קְרָעִים׃

AhiYAH אֲחִיָּה took hold of the new robe he was wearing and tore it into TWELVE [ 12 ] pieces.

וַיֹּאמֶר לְיָרׇבְעָם קַח־לְךָ עֲשָׂרָה קְרָעִים כִּי כֹה אָמַר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנְנִי קֹרֵעַ אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה מִיַּד שְׁלֹמֹה וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ אֵת עֲשָׂרָה הַשְּׁבָטִים׃

“Take TEN [ 10 ] pieces,” he said to Yeroboam. “For thus said YAH יהוה, the ELohim of YISRAEL:

I am about to tear the kingdom out of Shalomon’s hands, and I will give you TEN [ 10 ] TRIBES [ THE HOUSE OF YISRAEL ].

וְהַשֵּׁבֶט הָאֶחָד יִהְיֶה־לּוֹ לְמַעַן עַבְדִּי דָוִד וּלְמַעַן יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר בָּחַרְתִּי בָהּ מִכֹּל שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

But ONE [ 1 ] TRIBE [ THE HOUSE OF JUDAH ] shall remain his—for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Yerusalem, the city that I have chosen out of all THE TRIBES OF YISRAEL.

יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עֲזָבוּנִי וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְעַשְׁתֹּרֶת אֱלֹהֵי צִדֹנִין לִכְמוֹשׁ אֱלֹהֵי מוֹאָב וּלְמִלְכֹּם אֱלֹהֵי בְנֵי־עַמּוֹן וְלֹא־הָלְכוּ בִדְרָכַי לַעֲשׂוֹת הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינַי וְחֻקֹּתַי וּמִשְׁפָּטַי כְּדָוִד אָבִיו׃

For they have forsaken Me; they have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Phoenicians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites; they have not walked in My ways, or done what is pleasing to Me, or [ kept ] My laws and rules, as his father David did.

they took their daughters to wife and gave their own daughters to their sons, and they worshiped their gods.

וַיַּעֲשׂוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּ אֶת־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֶת־הַבְּעָלִים וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרוֹת׃

The Children of YISRAEL בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל did what was offensive to YAH יהוה; they ignored YAH יהוה their ELohim and worshiped the Baalim and the Asheroth.

וַיִּחַר־אַף 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם מֶלֶךְ אֲרַם נַהֲרָיִם וַיַּעַבְדוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם שְׁמֹנֶה שָׁנִים׃

YAH יהוה became incensed at IsraEL and surrendered them to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim; and the Children of YISRAEL בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל were subject to Cushan-rishathaim for EIGHT [ 8 ] years.

וַתֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה שָׁבָה יְבִמְתֵּךְ אֶל־עַמָּהּ וְאֶל־אֱלֹהֶיהָ שׁוּבִי אַחֲרֵי יְבִמְתֵּךְ׃

So she said:

“See, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and her gods. Go follow your sister-in-law.”

וַתֹּאמֶר רוּת אַל־תִּפְגְּעִי־בִי לְעׇזְבֵךְ לָשׁוּב מֵאַחֲרָיִךְ כִּי אֶל־אֲשֶׁר תֵּלְכִי אֵלֵךְ וּבַאֲשֶׁר תָּלִינִי אָלִין עַמֵּךְ עַמִּי וֵאלֹהַיִךְ אֱלֹהָי׃

But Ruth רוּת [ The Moabite הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּה ] replied:

“Do not urge me to leave you, to turn back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your ELohim my ELohim

בַּאֲשֶׁר תָּמוּתִי אָמוּת וְשָׁם אֶקָּבֵר כֹּה יַעֲשֶׂה 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 לִי וְכֹה יוֹסִיף כִּי הַמָּוֶת יַפְרִיד בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵךְ׃

Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus and more may YAH יהוה do to me if anything but death parts me from you.”

וּמִמַּעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשָׁם כְּמַרְאֵה אֶבֶן־סַפִּיר דְּמוּת כִּסֵּא וְעַל דְּמוּת הַכִּסֵּא דְּמוּת כְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם עָלָיו מִלְמָעְלָה׃

Above the expanse over their heads was the semblance of a THRONE, in appearance like sapphire; and on top, upon this semblance of a THRONE, there was the Semblance of a Human Form.

וָאֵרֶא כְּעֵין חַשְׁמַל כְּמַרְאֵה־אֵשׁ בֵּית־לָהּ סָבִיב מִמַּרְאֵה מׇתְנָיו וּלְמָעְלָה וּמִמַּרְאֵה מׇתְנָיו וּלְמַטָּה רָאִיתִי כְּמַרְאֵה־אֵשׁ וְנֹגַהּ לוֹ סָבִיב׃

From what appeared as his loins up, I saw a gleam as of amber—what looked like a fire encased in a frame; and from what appeared as his loins down, I saw what looked like fire. There was a RADIANCE all about him.

כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶעָנָן בְּיוֹם הַגֶּשֶׁם כֵּן מַרְאֵה הַנֹּגַהּ סָבִיב הוּא מַרְאֵה דְּמוּת כְּבוֹד־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וָאֶרְאֶה וָאֶפֹּל עַל־פָּנַי וָאֶשְׁמַע קוֹל מְדַבֵּר׃ {פ}

Like the appearance of the BOW which shines in the clouds on a day of rain, such was the appearance of the surrounding RADIANCE. That was the appearance of the Semblance of the Splendour [ Kavod כְּבוֹד ] of YAH יהוה! When I beheld it, I flung myself down on my face. And I heard the voice of someone speaking.

לִשְׁמֹר מְזִמּוֹת וְדַעַת שְׂפָתֶיךָ יִנְצֹרוּ׃

That you may have foresight,
While your lips hold fast to knowledge.

כִּי נֹפֶת תִּטֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתֵי זָרָה וְחָלָק מִשֶּׁמֶן חִכָּהּ׃

For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey;
Her mouth is smoother than oil;

וְאַחֲרִיתָהּ מָרָה כַלַּעֲנָה חַדָּה כְּחֶרֶב פִּיּוֹת׃

But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood [ laanah לַעֲנָה ],
Sharp as a two-edged sword.

אחר הדברים האלה ראיתי והנה שער נפתח בשמים והקול הראשון אשר שמעתיו כקול שופר מדבר אלי אמר עלה הנה וארא את אשר היה יהיה אחרי כן:

After these things I saw and behold a gate opened in heaven and the first voice which I heard as the sound of the trumpet speaking to me said ascend here and see what would be afterwards.

וכרגע הייתי שם ברוח והנה כסא נראה בשמים ועל הכסא ישב:

And just now I was there in the wind and here was a chair visible in the sky and on the chair sat.

והישב מראהו כמראה אבן ישפה ואדם וקשת סביב לכסא ומראיה כעין ברקת:

And HE sat down to look like a jasper stone and a man and a BOW around the chair and look like an emerald:

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 עַל־עׇזְבָם אֶת־תּוֹרָתִי אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לִפְנֵיהֶם וְלֹא־שָׁמְעוּ בְקוֹלִי וְלֹא־הָלְכוּ בָהּ׃

YAH יהוה replied:

Because they FORSOOK the TEACHING [ TORAH תּוֹרָתִי ] I had set before them. They did not obey Me and they did not follow it,

וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרֵי שְׁרִרוּת לִבָּם וְאַחֲרֵי הַבְּעָלִים אֲשֶׁר לִמְּדוּם אֲבוֹתָם׃ {פ}

but followed their own willful heart and followed the Baalim [ הַבְּעָלִים ], as their fathers had taught them.

לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנְנִי מַאֲכִילָם אֶת־הָעָם הַזֶּה לַעֲנָה וְהִשְׁקִיתִים מֵי־רֹאשׁ׃

Assuredly, thus said YAH יוהוה of Hosts, the ELohim of YISRAEL:

I am going to feed that people wormwood [ laanah לַעֲנָה ] and make them drink a bitter draft.

And the name of the star is called Wormwood [ לענה Laanah ] and it is the third [ 3 ] water for wormwood [ laanah לענה ] and many of the people died from the water because bitter [ מָרָה Marah מרים Maryam Miryam ] is.

Now that his boughs are broken up,
He feels his guilt;
He himself pulls apart his altars,
Smashes his pillars.

כִּי עַתָּה יֹאמְרוּ אֵין מֶלֶךְ לָנוּ כִּי לֹא יָרֵאנוּ אֶת־𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 וְהַמֶּלֶךְ מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּנוּ׃

Truly, now they say:

“We have no KING [ MELEK מֶלֶךְ ];
For, since we do not fear YAH יהוה,
What can a KING [ MELEK הַמֶּלֶךְ ] do to us?”

דִּבְּרוּ דְבָרִים אָלוֹת שָׁוְא כָּרֹת בְּרִית וּפָרַח כָּרֹאשׁ מִשְׁפָּט עַל תַּלְמֵי שָׂדָי׃

So they conclude agreements and make COVENANTS
With false oaths,
And justice degenerates into poison w**ds,
Breaking out on the furrows of the fields.

✨ WHO IS S***M סְדֹמָה AND GOMORRAH עֲמֹרָה TODAY? ✨

וַיֵּרָא אֵלָיו 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 בְּאֵלֹנֵי מַמְרֵא וְהוּא יֹשֵׁב פֶּתַח־הָאֹהֶל כְּחֹם הַיּוֹם׃

YAH יהוה appeared to him [ Avraham ] by the terebinths of Mamre; he was sitting at the entrance of the tent as the day grew hot.

וַיִּשָּׂא עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא וְהִנֵּה שְׁלֹשָׁה אֲנָשִׁים נִצָּבִים עָלָיו וַיַּרְא וַיָּרׇץ לִקְרָאתָם מִפֶּתַח הָאֹהֶל וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ אָרְצָה׃

Looking up, he saw three [ 3 ] figures standing near him. Perceiving this, he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them and, bowing to the ground,

וַיֹּאמַר אֲדֹנָי אִם־נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אַל־נָא תַעֲבֹר מֵעַל עַבְדֶּךָ׃

he said:

“My Adonay [ אֲדֹנָי ]! If it please you, do not go on past your servant.

יֻקַּח־נָא מְעַט־מַיִם וְרַחֲצוּ רַגְלֵיכֶם וְהִשָּׁעֲנוּ תַּחַת הָעֵץ׃

Let a little water be brought; bathe your feet and recline under the tree.

וְאֶקְחָה פַת־לֶחֶם וְסַעֲדוּ לִבְּכֶם אַחַר תַּעֲבֹרוּ כִּי־עַל־כֵּן עֲבַרְתֶּם עַל־עַבְדְּכֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ כֵּן תַּעֲשֶׂה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ׃

And let me fetch a morsel of bread that you may refresh yourselves; then go on—seeing that you have come your servant’s way.”

They replied: “Do as you have said.”

וַיָּקֻמוּ מִשָּׁם הָאֲנָשִׁים וַיַּשְׁקִפוּ עַל־פְּנֵי סְדֹם וְאַבְרָהָם הֹלֵךְ עִמָּם לְשַׁלְּחָם׃

The agents set out from there and looked down toward S***m סְדֹם, Avraham walking with them to see them off.

וַ𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אָמָר הַמְכַסֶּה אֲנִי מֵאַבְרָהָם אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי עֹשֶׂה׃

Now YAH יהוה had said:

“Shall I hide from Avraham what I am about to do,

וְאַבְרָהָם הָיוֹ יִהְיֶה לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל וְעָצוּם וְנִבְרְכוּ־בוֹ כֹּל גּוֹיֵי הָאָרֶץ׃

since Avraham is to become a great and populous nation and all the nations of the earth are to bless themselves by him?

כִּי יְדַעְתִּיו לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יְצַוֶּה אֶת־בָּנָיו וְאֶת־בֵּיתוֹ אַחֲרָיו וְשָׁמְרוּ דֶּרֶךְ 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 לַעֲשׂוֹת צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפָּט לְמַעַן הָבִיא 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 עַל־אַבְרָהָם אֵת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּר עָלָיו׃

For I have singled him out, that he may instruct his children and his posterity to keep the way of YAH יהוה by doing what is just and right, in order that YAH יהוה may bring about for Avraham what has been promised him.”

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 זַעֲקַת סְדֹם וַעֲמֹרָה כִּי־רָבָּה וְחַטָּאתָם כִּי כָבְדָה מְאֹד׃

Then YAH יהוה said:

“The outrage of S***m סְדֹם and Gomorrah עֲמֹרָה is so great, and their sin so grave!

אֵרְדָה־נָּא וְאֶרְאֶה הַכְּצַעֲקָתָהּ הַבָּאָה אֵלַי עָשׂוּ כָּלָה וְאִם־לֹא אֵדָעָה׃

I will go down to see whether they have acted altogether according to the outcry that has reached Me; if not, I will take note.”

וַיִּפְנוּ מִשָּׁם הָאֲנָשִׁים וַיֵּלְכוּ סְדֹמָה וְאַבְרָהָם עוֹדֶנּוּ עֹמֵד לִפְנֵי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄׃

The agents went on from there to S***mah סְדֹמָה, while Avraham remained standing before YAH יהוה.

וַיִּגַּשׁ אַבְרָהָם וַיֹּאמַר הַאַף תִּסְפֶּה צַדִּיק עִם־רָשָׁע׃

Avraham came forward and said:

“Will You sweep away the innocent along with the guilty?

אוּלַי יֵשׁ חֲמִשִּׁים צַדִּיקִם בְּתוֹךְ הָעִיר הַאַף תִּסְפֶּה וְלֹא־תִשָּׂא לַמָּקוֹם לְמַעַן חֲמִשִּׁים הַצַּדִּיקִם אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבָּהּ׃

What if there should be fifty [ 50 ] innocent within the city; will You then wipe out the place and not forgive it for the sake of the innocent fifty [ 50 ] who are in it?

חָלִלָה לְּךָ מֵעֲשֹׂת כַּדָּבָר הַזֶּה לְהָמִית צַדִּיק עִם־רָשָׁע וְהָיָה כַצַּדִּיק כָּרָשָׁע חָלִלָה לָּךְ הֲשֹׁפֵט כׇּל־הָאָרֶץ לֹא יַעֲשֶׂה מִשְׁפָּט׃

Far be it from You to do such a thing, to bring death upon the innocent [ Tzadik צַּדִּיק ] as well as the guilty, so that innocent and guilty fare alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge [ Shofet הֲשֹׁפֵט ] of all the earth deal justly [ Mishpat מִשְׁפָּט ]?”

וַיֹּאמֶר 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 אִם־אֶמְצָא בִסְדֹם חֲמִשִּׁים צַדִּיקִם בְּתוֹךְ הָעִיר וְנָשָׂאתִי לְכׇל־הַמָּקוֹם בַּעֲבוּרָם׃

And YAH יהוה answered:

“If I find within the city of S***m fifty [ 50 ] innocent ones, I will forgive the whole place for their sake.”

וַיַּעַן אַבְרָהָם וַיֹּאמַר הִנֵּה־נָא הוֹאַלְתִּי לְדַבֵּר אֶל־אֲדֹנָי וְאָנֹכִי עָפָר וָאֵפֶר׃

Avraham spoke up, saying:

“Here I venture to speak to my Adonay, I who am but dust and ashes:

אוּלַי יַחְסְרוּן חֲמִשִּׁים הַצַּדִּיקִם חֲמִשָּׁה הֲתַשְׁחִית בַּחֲמִשָּׁה אֶת־כׇּל־הָעִיר וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אַשְׁחִית אִם־אֶמְצָא שָׁם אַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃

What if the fifty [ 50 ] innocent [ Tzadikim הַצַּדִּיקִם ] should lack five [ 5 ]? Will You destroy the whole city for want of the five [ 5 ]?”

“I will not destroy if I find forty-five [ 45 ] there.”

וַיֹּסֶף עוֹד לְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו וַיֹּאמַר אוּלַי יִמָּצְאוּן שָׁם אַרְבָּעִים וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אֶעֱשֶׂה בַּעֲבוּר הָאַרְבָּעִים׃

But he spoke up again, and said:

“What if forty [ 40 ] should be found there?”

“I will not do it, for the sake of the forty [ 40 ].”

וַיֹּאמֶר אַל־נָא יִחַר לַאדֹנָי וַאֲדַבֵּרָה אוּלַי יִמָּצְאוּן שָׁם שְׁלֹשִׁים וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אֶעֱשֶׂה אִם־אֶמְצָא שָׁם שְׁלֹשִׁים׃

And he said:

“Let not my Adonay be angry if I go on:
What if thirty [ 30 ] should be found there?”

“I will not do it if I find thirty [ 30 ] there.”

וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה־נָא הוֹאַלְתִּי לְדַבֵּר אֶל־אֲדֹנָי אוּלַי יִמָּצְאוּן שָׁם עֶשְׂרִים וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אַשְׁחִית בַּעֲבוּר הָעֶשְׂרִים׃

And he said,m:

“I venture again to speak to my Adonay:
What if twenty [ 20 ] should be found there?”

“I will not destroy, for the sake of the twenty [ 20 ].”

וַיֹּאמֶר אַל־נָא יִחַר לַאדֹנָי וַאֲדַבְּרָה אַךְ־הַפַּעַם אוּלַי יִמָּצְאוּן שָׁם עֲשָׂרָה וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אַשְׁחִית בַּעֲבוּר הָעֲשָׂרָה׃

And he said:

“Let not my Adonay be angry if I speak but this last time:
What if ten [ 10 ] should be found there?”

“I will not destroy, for the sake of the ten [ 10 ].”

וַיֵּלֶךְ יְהֹוָה כַּאֲשֶׁר כִּלָּה לְדַבֵּר אֶל־אַבְרָהָם וְאַבְרָהָם שָׁב לִמְקֹמוֹ׃

Having finished speaking to Avraham, YAH יהוה departed; and Avraham returned to his place.

וְהָרָשָׁע כִּי יָשׁוּב מִכׇּל־חַטֹּאתָו אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וְשָׁמַר אֶת־כׇּל־חֻקוֹתַי וְעָשָׂה מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה חָיֹה יִחְיֶה לֹא יָמוּת׃

Moreover, IF the wicked one repents of all the sins that he committed AND keeps all My laws AND does what is just AND right, he shall live; he shall not die.

כׇּל־פְּשָׁעָיו אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לֹא יִזָּכְרוּ לוֹ בְּצִדְקָתוֹ אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה יִחְיֶה׃

None of the transgressions he committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness צִדְקָתוֹ he has practiced, he shall live.

הֶחָפֹץ אֶחְפֹּץ מוֹת רָשָׁע נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 הֲלוֹא בְּשׁוּבוֹ מִדְּרָכָיו וְחָיָה׃ {ס}

Is it my desire that a wicked person shall die?—says YAH יהוה Adonay. It is rather that he shall turn back from his ways and live.

וּבְשׁוּב צַדִּיק מִצִּדְקָתוֹ וְעָשָׂה עָוֶל כְּכֹל הַתּוֹעֵבוֹת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה הָרָשָׁע יַעֲשֶׂה וָחָי כׇּל־צִדְקֹתָו אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה לֹא תִזָּכַרְנָה בְּמַעֲלוֹ אֲשֶׁר־מָעַל וּבְחַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר־חָטָא בָּם יָמוּת׃

So, too, if a righteous [ Tzadik צַדִּיק ] person turns away from his righteousness צִּדְקָתוֹ and does wrong, practicing the very abominations that the wicked person practiced, shall he live?

None of the righteous צִדְקֹתָו deeds that he did shall be remembered; because of the treachery he has practiced and the sins he has committed—because of these, he shall die.

וַאֲמַרְתֶּם לֹא יִתָּכֵן דֶּרֶךְ אֲדֹנָי שִׁמְעוּ־נָא בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל הֲדַרְכִּי לֹא יִתָּכֵן הֲלֹא דַרְכֵיכֶם לֹא יִתָּכֵנוּ׃

Yet you say:

“The way of Adonay is unfair.”

Listen, Oh House of YISRAEL בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל: Is My way unfair? It is your ways that are unfair!

My maidens and my youths
Have gone into captivity!

HE loves righteous צְדָקוֹת deeds;
the upright shall behold His face.
