🐝 It’s a bee-autiful day to celebrate World Bee Day🐝
Today we got our hands in the soil and volunteered with the Lachat interns, to plant two different types of native species beloved by our pollinator friends:

🌸 Clethra — fragrant summersweet blooms that bees can’t resist
🌼 Marsh Marigold — one of the earliest spring bloomers, a vital early food source for bees

🌎Hey Weston - Earth Day Alert - we need your help!

There’s an important bill moving through the CT legislature right now: HB 5155, An Act Concerning Pesticide Reporting Modernization - and it needs our voices behind it.

Here’s the problem: Connecticut’s pesticide tracking system is stuck in the past. Reports are filed as PDFs and static images - unsearchable, inaccessible, and basically useless for understanding what’s really happening in our environment.

The result? 🐝 Pesticides are showing up in our rivers and groundwater. 🌱 Pesticide-coated seeds aren’t tracked at all. 📊 Researchers and residents can’t get the data they need to protect our communities.

HB 5155 would fix this - requiring the state to build a modern, searchable database so we actually know what pesticides are being used, where, and in what quantities. And it won’t add any extra burden on our farmers.

✅ The Environment Committee already passed it. Now it needs a YES vote in the full legislature.

📣 TAKE ACTION: Contact Senator Maher and ask her to support HB 5155. Contact Representative Hughes and thank her for co-sponsoring the bill. It takes 5 minutes and makes a real difference.

❓What if the best tick repellent isn’t a spray - it’s plant removal?

💡Invasive barberry creates the perfect sheltered habitat for ticks to thrive. Yards with it have 17X more ticks than those without. And tick sprays? Largely ineffective AND harmful to the environment.

🌱This Saturday, Lachat Town Farm will show you how to identify and remove invasive barberry from your yard, amongst others! We will finish up with a tour of the ongoing restoration project - thousands of invasive plants have been removed in 2 years, and we can’t wait to show you the results of our hard work.

‼️Hey Weston ‼️
HB 5155 – An Act Concerning Pesticide Reporting Modernization is currently in the Environment Committee. This bill would modernize pesticide reporting in CT, providing greater transparency and stronger protections for pollinators, water, and public health.
(A big thank you to Representative Anne Hughes for co-sponsoring this important bill)

Senator Ceci Maher sits on the Environment Committee, and right now we need her to hear loud & clear that we support this bill and want it moved out of committee and onto the House floor for a vote.
👉 Let’s call Sen. Maher with a quick message of support!
📞 860-240-0068

Tell her you appreciate her leadership on environmental issues and ask her to support sending HB 5155 forward.
