The Story Behind Friends of “Kegger”, a.k.a Edgardo Gutierrez

In loving memory of

Edgardo “Eddie” or “Kegger” Gutierrez

Let us tell you the story of how Friends of Kegger began. It all began with Edgardo Gutierrez, or as some of his close friends liked to call him, “Eddie” or “Kegger.” Large in stature, Eddie was a fun and funny guy. He had the biggest heart you could find in a person, and he loved to play pranks. He was a bass player and loved ALL kinds of music. Kegger was the kind of guy that would bring people together. He made friends easily because of his loving and caring ways. When Kegger was around, people would gather around him just to be near his positive and jokester attitude, always laughing and having a good time. He created an environment of unity and because of his personality, he was very popular.

His battle with diabetes was short and he wouldn’t show his troubles of this debilitating disease to anyone. His battle with diabetic complications lasted approximately two days, requiring him to become hospitalized for two days. Kegger sadly passed away from pancreatitis in the early morning of July 19, 1998, he was 29 years old. His passing had left many friends distressed in their own personal lives. Recovery of his passing would take many years. Kegger left behind a son, Christopher Zion Gutierrez, and a daughter, Elizabeth Gutierrez. As part of the healing process, Keggerfest, a celebration of Kegger’s life, was formed. Every year on Kegger’s birthday, all of his friends get together to remember and celebrate his life, becoming one the most joyous occasions to date. Still in death, he unites people he had touched during his lifetime, and they remember what an awesome person he was.
