At just 8 years old, Bailey was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. After surgery, radiation and months of chemotherapy, she’s now in her seventh of nine treatment cycles. Throughout her treatment, Bailey has needed red blood cell and platelet transfusions—gifted by generous blood donors.

Through it all, she continues to be herself: building with Legos, playing soccer and facing each challenge with courage.

When asked to describe herself, Bailey simply said: “I am strong and brave.”

With the support of her family, school community and generous blood donors, Bailey continues to look ahead to brighter days, building one amazing Lego creation at a time.

Kim first started donating blood to help manage a health condition, then her sisters joined her, and soon blood donation became a tradition for this family.

Each appointment is time set aside for someone they've never met. Each donation is a reminder that helping others can bring people together, too.

Robert donates so often, his family joked he should have a faucet on his arm. So he got one tattooed there!

The dripping faucet, with O+ in the center, started as a dinner conversation with his wife and daughter. Behind it are decades of donating.

He first gave blood at a high school drive in 1984. When a coworker battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma needed platelet donors, he began donating platelets, too. For roughly the past five years, he’s aimed to donate every other week.

“Donating just seemed like the right thing to do because I felt comfortable doing it.”

Reality: Grant has tattoos and has been donating blood for the past three years.

He likes donating because it helps people. Along the way, he's helped bust one of the most common misconceptions about blood donation.

Some families pass down recipes. The Guzmans pass down a tradition of giving. ❤️

Several times a year, the Guzman family rolls up their sleeves together to donate blood. With several O negative donors in the family, they know their blood type can be especially important in emergencies, when there may not be time to determine a patient’s blood type.

But for the Guzmans, donating isn’t a once in a while thing. It’s something they come back to together throughout the year, turning generosity into a family tradition.

And that tradition can make a difference for patients who need blood.

800 donations. One donor. More than six decades of showing up.

When Ned made his first blood donation in high school, he couldn't have known it would become a lifelong commitment to helping patients. Now, after reaching his 800th donation milestone, (symbolically represented as 100 gallons), he's among the first Vitalant donors in Colorado to achieve this remarkable accomplishment.

For Ned, donating platelets became a habit and a way to give back to his community. Those donations have helped support countless patients over the years, including many who rely on platelets during cancer treatment.

Along the way, he even discovered a hometown connection with fellow longtime platelet donor Deano after both moved to Colorado in adulthood. Together, they have contributed more than 1,200 lifetime donations.

He was standing at death’s door. Then a stranger gave him more time.

In February 2024, Derek went to the emergency room struggling to breathe after months of worsening symptoms. Doctors discovered his iron counts dropped to dangerous levels and diagnosed him with a rare autoimmune disease called Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

He needed a blood transfusion immediately.

That transfusion became a critical turning point, giving Derek’s body the support it needed to begin the fight toward recovery.

“When you find yourself standing at death’s door, you truly understand how precious every blood donation is,” Derek says. “Someone I will never meet took the time to donate, and that gift helped save my life.”

Derek may never know the person who donated the blood he received. But he knows what their generosity gave him: hope, healing and more time with the people he loves.
