Happy 20th Anniversary, Carroll Nonprofit Center!

We marked the occasion at a celebration this past week, with lovely remarks from Director Katie Speert and fellow tenants. Echoing their statements:

Twenty years of the Carroll Nonprofit Center has saved our nonprofits $14 million in rent — and the stability that creates for community organizations is foundational, both for the organizations themselves and for our community’s access to lasting programs and services.

But one of the best features is the collaboration that comes from being neighbors with fellow nonprofits and community leaders. In the break room and the hallway — and yes, sometimes even the bathroom — are unparalleled.

Thank you, Anverse Inc., for investing in this community and caring for that investment all these years. Thank you Sandi & Bruce for making it run, and for being our friends.

Congratulations to our partner Penn-Mar Human Services on their grand opening! We love working with the Penn-Mar team and clients, and are excitedly waiting the next cohort of learners to start training in our Lab.

Can’t wait to get another demo of their mind-blowing smart kitchen!!! It was a treat to get a look at all the tech during the grand opening.

Shout out to Jenn, Penn-Mar’s Chief Development & Marketing Officer, who we were lucky enough to recruit to our board this year. Congratulations on this huge milestone and continued success in sustaining the impact of Penn-Mar.

The Carroll Technology and Innovation Council will be supporting The Literacy Council of Carroll County on Monday, May 18th, from 6:00–8:00 PM to bring community members a no-cost seminar titled Protecting Your Finances and Avoiding Scams: What You Need to Know!

A number of organizations will be speaking on relevant topics such as banking, real estate, and financial literacy in the digital age.

CTIC will wrap up the evening alongside the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, informing attendees on best practices for spotting fraud and phishing attempts in the online landscape.

Did you know, Skyline was also the contractor for a majority of the initial development for Carroll County’s Public Network (CCPN) initiative?

The CCPN recently received a 2026 Smart 20 Award from Smart Cities Connect. The Smart Awards annually recognize global smart cities projects, honoring the most influential work. This award was accepted by board member Jay Uebel and long-time champion for CTIC, Denise Beaver of Carroll County Department of Economic Development.

We wish Skyline success with this project in California, and we will continue to work together to advance broadband access and digital equity in our own Carroll County!

Thursday's from 5:30–6:30 PM at the Carroll Nonprofit Center in Westminster, we will be hosting a space for people enrolled to get study resources, practice questions, and guidance from people who've already passed. Let's get certified! 💪

Classmates from South Carroll Senior Center and Molly met at Liquidity Aleworks last night for Slam the Scam Day yesterday!

We shared stories of scams and scammer tactics, practiced recognizing scam v. fraud attempts, and went off track in the best ways 🙂

If you’re looking for more education on managing scam and fraud, join us on May 18 at the Carroll Arts Center for a free financial information program. The program, developed by the Literacy Council of Carroll County, MD, will feature multiple speakers addressing a range of financial topics affecting residents from teenagers to senior citizens (link in comments).

It's always a good time for puppies at CTIC, even if Jack and Molly are in the middle of a meeting!

Thanks, as always, to member Dave Provine, for bringing the pups by to say hi. Have you heard of the non-profit he recently launched, Carroll Community BikeWorks? The mission is to provide and repair bicycles for free to adults and children with limited resources, and create meaningful work for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

BikeWorks needs used bikes and bike-related accessories and tools/stands. If you have anything to donate that's in good condition, let Dave know; he is happy to pickup in Carroll and surrounding areas as well as AACo! Maybe you'll get some puppy-time out of it too!
