DADDY LONG LEGS is undergoing a dental procedure later this month for gingival hyperplasia, an overgrowth of gum tissue that covers his teeth, and possible extractions. The vet determined he had mouth pain and a suspicious spot in his gum tissue that looked like possible infection. They will remove the extra gum tissue so they can determine what else is happening. And while we weren’t expecting a 5-year old pup to need a dental while in our care, we are happy to make sure he is pain free before finding his forever family. Thank you for any support, donations, well wishes, and prayers for this deserving and sensitive soul, and our other 4 medical dogs.

It is the final stretch of our Paws for a Cause fundraiser, and we are almost to our goal! For additional information, or to donate, visit our fundraiser page (link in comments).

Oscar Mayer, Now Dew, Stays Home. This little man came to us from a local good Samaritan, who took him in after his owner lost his housing. Thanks to Dr. Wood and the entire team at Tender Heart Veterinary Care who donated time and resources into getting sweet Dew started on his final chapter! And thanks to foster Marjorie, who committed to foster sight unseen. As time went on, we discovered Dew had some quirks that would make him uncomfortable as a pup exposed to different social situations or unknown settings. And while he was the perfect snuggly gentleman in his quiet foster home, and to those in his inner circle, he struggled in meeting friends. Fast forward, and we realized Dew had already decided he was home to stay! His hobbies include neighborhood watch for any and all wildlife that happens to saunter by and napping on the back of the couch with his kitty brother. Here he is with foster, and now forever mama, Marjorie, while dad Kurt, 2-legged brother Karl, and Fangley the feline wait patiently at home. We are so happy that Dew can relax in his forever home, knowing nothing but love and acceptance for all of his days. Happy trails little man and congratulations to all!

MOIRA ROSE has been on a medical hold since entering our rescue earlier this year. She sustained a leg fracture as a puppy, which developed into a bone infection that hadn’t been treated for over 4 years. We have been exploring her prognosis to determine her best path forward for a healthy and pain-free life! She has already had one surgical procedure which involved a bone biopsy and cultures. Based on this information, we are awaiting an orthopedic consult next month to determine which surgery makes the most sense. Her front leg is affected, and an amputation seems like the easiest solution. But…her “good” front leg is showing significant enough signs of arthritic deterioration due to limping for over 4 years, and this makes us pause for a breath. While amputation would be the easiest route, we know that increasing the load on her remaining front leg will be a challenge for her as she ages. The consult is to see if a bone fusion is possible so her leg can bear weight to help with living a comfortable life, or if amputation is her only option. Thank you for any support, donations, well wishes, and prayers for this deserving girl, and our other 4 medical dogs. Grab the perfect snack for any time of day…Meet Babybel! This 1-year old bully mix came to us from North Quabbin Regional Animal Control after her owner could no longer care for her and she is realllll creamy and delicious in a palm size snack. This girl is an “always on the go and ready for anything” mini snack cheese, and quite frankly, too tasty to share! Babybel is a petite and perfect puppy…individually packaged size at only 39 lbs and is a GREAT dog! Seriously…just a wiggly and super affectionate puppy who has responded well to anyone and anything she has encountered with us. Age-appropriate with some energy to melt through, yet mild-mannered and loves to chill and snuggle with her people as long as she is close. She knows basic commands like “sit” and “down” and is a total lovebug! Peel away her layers to reveal a mild, savory cheese with a heart of gold. And she can’t wait to find her forever. Diverse flavors are the best way to tackle any craving and Baby Baby is no exception! She is a woman of many trades… great for snacking alone (soaking up all the attention) or paired with crackers, fruits, or veggies (she is dog- and cat-friendly, and then some!) and would obviously do great as a grilled cheese or on burgers (in sooo many different families). She is small in stature, but big on love and personality. She doesn’t have a red wax coating but is itty-bitty and easy to pack and bring on the go – and boy, is she down for adventures! Babybel is authentic to the core with no artificial preservatives or colors and can’t wait to find her forever pairing. And for as beautiful as she is, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. She’ll be your baby! For more information, or to apply to adopt this semisoft wheel of deliciousness visit the Adoptable Dogs section of our website (link in comments).

ADOPTABLE SWEET’N LOW is looking soooo much better! This pretty little lady came to us with pneumonia, and after almost 6 weeks of treatment, is free and clear to find her forever family. What we have discovered about her…she loves peanut butter lick mats and batting the Kong wobbler around. She is known to have bursts of energy chasing a jollyball around the yard in uber small spurts. She could spectacularly ignore another calm co-exister pup in the house but would be happy and content to be your one and only…as long as human snuggles were prioritized. We initially thought Sweet’N Low was hearing impaired but her recovery from all things mucus-y proved us wrong. Selective hearing…maybe. But this little gremlin will always perk up when the treat jar opens.

It took her three rounds of chest X-rays, cultures, and over a month of high charge antibiotics to recover completely, and we are so relieved that she is feeling so great. Thank you for any support, donations, well wishes, and prayers for this deserving soul, and our other 4 medical dogs. ADOPTABLE BAM BAM is resting comfortably after major dental surgery last week thanks to the good pain meds. We took this charming senior a few weeks back not realizing the extent of his medical needs. We knew he needed NARES and soft palate surgery to be able to breathe freely, a mass removed from his eyelid, and a dental to identify possible issues with mouth pain that weren’t obvious on exam due to gum overgrowth. Fast forward to last Tuesday, when his procedure lasted over seven hours, and that was just to get to halftime. A second surgery is required to finish his dental extractions and repairs and resect his soft palate. Thank you to Dr. Wood and the amazing staff at Tender Heart Veterinary Care for taking such great care of our sweet man, and staying with him until almost midnight, even though you closed at 5pm. Bam Bam is a great example of how one dog can use up a huge chunk of our medical fund for an unforeseen issue and why we are constantly looking to build reserves. So that we are prepared for the unexpected. Thank you to all of our supporters…it was easy to say “yes” to this surgery because we had the funds, all because of you! Unearthing these medical concerns means Bam Bam will be relieved of so much pain and discomfort after he makes it through this journey. And we know he is worthy of living a pain free life! Thank you for any support, donations, well wishes, and prayers for this deserving little guy, and our other 4 medical dogs. Meet Daddy Long Legs! This 5-year old incredibly docile soul came to us from an owner who is trying to make sure he lands in a perfect quiet spot where he can be his best self. Daddy ‘O was originally part of a massive hoarding case two years ago that spanned MA – NH where 80 boxers were ultimately surrendered and adopted out among several organizations. These boxers had not been socialized or seen the light of day and were very fearful of the outside world. His last owner did everything he could for Daddy! But he lives in a busy urban area and realized that this environment was holding him back from truly relaxing. He made the selfless decision to surrender him to our rescue out of love, and we are thrilled to report he is thriving in a quiet foster home away from the hustle and bustle of city living. With his looooong skinny legs, Daddy lives up to his name. He is an itty-bitty boxer at only 35 lbs, with the best nubbin tail around! His inky coat with brindle markings is gorgeous. And that underbite? Be still my heart! Like his namesake, everything about Daddy is harmless and innocent, without a single ounce of venom in his personality. He is a homebody and would prefer a predictable and consistent routine in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Another doggie sibling (or more!) is a must, as DLL loves dogs and is learning so much about how to be a dog from his foster siblings. He bounds around the yard like a gazelle, experiencing a newfound joy in being outside that he couldn’t understand for most of his life. Daddy is a pure delight and will shower you with love, smiles, and all that is good in the world.
