During the Summer Overnight Program. The participants and volunteers took time to reflect on how much they care and appreciate each other. The kids didn’t take long to come up with lots of “Shout Outs” to their peers and the YC staff. It was a very special weekend for all!

Happy Thursday, Youth Challenge! Today we get to celebrate another one of our WOO-ONDERFUL alumni and we’re throwin’ it back to the ‘90s where our spotlight shines on ANDREW VOGT!

Andrew was a staple at YC from 1992 when he first started to his high school graduation in 2005. He first came to YC after his parents, Ken & Mary Ellen, read about the program in the newspaper. He was one of YC’s first participants in Lake County and introduced many far east side classmates to YC. He was known for his love of country music, positive attitude, and eagerness to try new things. He loved swimming, golfing, and playing baseball with YC, among many other activities and opportunities! He was also one of the original members of YC’s “18 Up Club,” the 2000’s precursor to today’s adult programming.

Today, Andrew lives in his own apartment in Mentor-on-the-Lake. His apartment is actually called Andrew’s Place (“it’s true, it’s not a joke!”) He works at UH of Lake West as a customer service representative. He also plays in the Miracle League of Lake County and serves as a coach and mentor to younger players.
Let’s give Andrew a loud and proud YC WOO!
If you’re an alumn like Andrew and would like to stay (or get back) involved, sign up for our alumni programs today! Check out our website for more details.

YC is so grateful for partners like Automotive Specialty Services in Avon! Did you know that Automotive Specialty Services donates $1 to YC for each oil change completed? It's true, they've donated over $2,000 to YC so far this year. If you're looking for an oil change, you know where to go! Thank you, Automotive Specialty Services, for all you do to keep us on the move!

We’re still reeling after our Summer’s End Bash and Reunion and today we highlight two alumni who were at the party, celebrating 50 years of YC with us. Let’s hear it for…MAURA HOFHERR HAAS and RENA ORADINI!

Maura was a volunteer back in the late ‘90s and a part of YC’s summer staff in the early ‘00s. She was an incredible, capable, reliable and encouraging volunteer who made YC her second home. She was such a ray of sunshine to everyone who knew her and brought unlimited fun and friendship to the whole YC Gang. Maura is now an occupational therapist, working at a rehab hospital in the Quality Department. She and her husband live in Louisville, KY with their 3 boys.

Rena first came to YC as a participant in 2009 and was a regular at programs, especially Dance & Drama and other performing arts activities. Rena always wore the brightest smile and had questions for everyone, especially about their pets. She is also a great singer and has performed the National Anthem for us at various YC competitions!
Today, Rena is going to Tri-C and is also involved with her church, including volunteering to make pierogis!

These two outstanding alumni helped make our reunion celebration—and YC in general—extra special and we can’t thank them enough for their contributions to Youth Challenge. Rena and Maura, here’s a YC WOOO for you!
