This week is National Estate Planning Awareness Week, when people are encouraged to get their will and other documents in order.

Only 56% of Americans have done that, according to a 2026 survey, even though 73% say it matters to them.

Naomi Whitehead just turned 116. She's the oldest person in the U.S. (and second oldest in the world!), and only the 33rd person in recorded history to reach this age.

Scientists want to know how.

New genetic research suggests genes might explain up to half the difference in how long we live, more than scientists used to think. But Whitehead and other supercentenarians tend to share something else too: an active, social life and a healthy diet.
